Phonic Audio Analyzer (PAA6)

excellent piece of kit.

I have used this in field engineering the acoustics for commercial Audio-visual clients. It can run the run the gamut of tests and I trust the RTA on it over some body's iPhone app however I don't know how long the internal mics will hold until they should be recalibrated. At the end of the day it would be very close call between the NTI unit and this unit if I we're to purchase again. I will say this, on the NTI you can load your own test files which is a nice feature however I like the rta on the phonic better. The dedicated switches on the left are also a great feature as most people dont want to hear continuous pink noise or other generated signals. The phonic also has a considerable amount of other features which may come in handy down the road.

I bought this unit last year.Since January 2011 the manufacturer has promised a software / firmware update for this unit, to get a working PC Windows interface, which unfortunately never materialized up to now. They even removed their alpha version of the firmware some time ago from their website.Reading through the comments on their website for this product, it seems, that they stopped the announced firmware update alltogether, practically eliminating support for this, which i soarly regret.PS.: In the meantime Phonic removed all remaining support files for the PAA-6, thus no further support / firmware for the PAA-6 is expected. Seems to be a dead end now...

I have been using this analyzer for a couple of years with no issues. Tech/customer support is a little weak, doesn't appear to be any ongoing software support, upgrades, or development, but I have not had issues that required that. Decent little device at fair price for basic analysis. Not a "laboratory" quality analyzer.
