Good Curriculum Guide
For English teachers who do not have the time to research novels, but have to teach the novel because of the curriculum, this guide for LORD OF THE FLIES, helped me out a great deal. One of the things that takes me time to think through is projects for students to do that are in harmony with the unit. This pamphlet is excellent for that. There were many project ideas that I not only utilized, but got me thinking about new ones. The discussion questions are excellent to use as verbal exercises, or writing/homework assignments. it lightens the burdens of the English teacher immensely. The only negative thing is that the vocabulary words are not consistent with numbers. For example, some chapter discussions have 12 words, some have five, some have seven. In my class I manage to have ten a week from the reading, so I have to dig a little to find appropriate words to fill the quota of 10.

Basic, Predictable Resource
I used this along with other resources in teaching Lord of the Flies to my high school students. There wasn't much depth to this teacher's guide, but it did pose a few good discussion questions and the chapter summaries were helpful for my struggling readers. Overall, though, most students did not like the novel because it was dark and violent, and the teacher's guide didn't offer any tips for motivating students to read. I found more helpful resources on the web for free.

Ideal for differentiated classroom
I purchased this unit guide along with the one for the Common Core exercises for the same novel. Because I teach an inclusion class for English 9, the variety of exercises were ideal for my students. Students who need accommodations will appreciate the exercises provided in this book, which they can do on their own, for enrichment, or with a tutor.

Novel Units teacher guide for Lord of the Flies is great! It has a variety of activities to appeal to all sorts of students. The activities really help to find the deeper meaning in the book. Discussion topics and vocabulary are also very well done.

Excellent Review Book
Not to be mistaken with having students read the original, this is an excellent supplemental review book. Students may also use it to clarify the more complex ideas, such as understanding "the beast," etc. Recommend this one highly!

Disappointed
It is great for low level students (middle school, not high school). The activities are not appropriate for stimulating high school students and engaging them in the reading process.

Three Stars
A general overview with not many actually activities or handouts to use. Don't bother.

Five Stars
Saved me much work in lieu of assessments for the teaching of the magnificent tale.

Golden Golding
Amongst the wealth of critical writing "explaining" Golding's famous book, this is an enjoyable companion giving helpful details of characters and plot. As a guide for new students to the book, it is worth the investment BUT only after they have read and considered the book themselves!

Corretto e economico
