Most enjoyable book.
Excellent book: well written, superb photos, animated descriptions, line maps of the route and detailed commentary of everything ordinary and extraordinary you might meet on your excursions. Haven't taken my bike on any of these yet, but am looking forward to any or all of them.

Perfect gift
Bought for my dad for Christmas. He is a really keen cyclist but wanted to go on more leisurely bike rides with my mum who isn't quite as athletic! Lots of details of pubs, BnBs, with nice little maps and instructions. Good for planning a weekend away. Really well presented book!

More lifestyle than a cycling guide
I liked about this book:- a wide range of short cycling tours around the country- good to get an idea for family cycling tours with suggestions where to stop for Lunch or interesting sights.I did not like abou this book:- tour maps are sketches rather than detailed route maps. Without a detailed OS map you will get lost.- plenty of photos of single items like the authors bicycle, a phone booth.... but not many about the countryside and the sights along the tour.- Not enough details about a tour. To many very personal impressions from the author like what amazing view you have once you come around that particular corner. This is a book for your coffee table but not so much for your pannier bag.

Too Sunday supplement for me
Nice if you want a little jaunt out in the country, but as a serious guide, I feel it's a too compromised by its reliance on Sunday Supplement lifestlye appeal. There seems a certain formula at work with the book - shallow depth of field photos with lens flare and generic subject matter, little hand drawn maps, copious mention of gastro pubs. I see it's published by the Cool Camping people, which explains a lot. As a practical guide, though, it's way too big and impractical. Try reading it and riding at the same time.I suspect it designed more for coffee tables than the country lanes.Sorry, but too much style over substance, and totally impractical as a cycling guide.

just want to get out there
matt carroll's book is bloody marvellous. I haven't been on a bike ride in years but this made me want to hit the road and stop off for a few pints and snacks on route.

lovely book
Bought this as a present but on looking through it wanted one for myself - beautifully written and photographed, made one want to jump on the bike and go exploring.
