Is the seat of your office chair or computer chair no longer staying at the height that you want? Does it keep dropping too low? The good news is that you do not have to replace the entire chair if the gas lift has failed or if it is not suitable... just replace the gas lift for a fraction of the cost! BiMi Gas Lifts are locking gas springs designed for variable seat height adjustment of swivel chairs, task chairs, executive chairs, operator chairs, computer chairs, draughtsman's chairs and swivel stools. The gas spring is a double cylinder system that consists of a pressure tube and a guiding tube. The tubes provide a smooth seat-height adjustment, they gently absorb the weight of the sitter, and they allow bending movements (for example when the load on the seat is not centred). The overall result is that you can work more comfortably. This 7-inch black straight gas lift is factory load tested up to 39 stones and is TUV, ANSI & BIFMA certified

Great replacement for original unit
I bought this to replace the original unit in my Ikea office chair that was tired and leaking oil.I followed the guidance given by another reviewer and removed the base and wheels from the chair.I found that holding the wheels in my hand and hitting the bottom of the old gas strut a couple of times with a club hammer released it.Getting the gas strut to release from the chair base plate itself was slightly harder, but again I followed the guidance, clamped the chair base plate in a vice and used stilsons on the gas strut. It took a couple of firm taps on the stilsons with a hammer, but the gas strut then released.Once the old unit was removed, fitting the new unit was simple, and the chair has a new lease of life.Unit seems high quality, was a direct replacement for the old one I removed and seems to have the same range of travel, albeit the chair sits slightly higher at full "up", as the new unit isn't tired like the old one was.Excellent value. Highly recommended.

Great gas lifter which has given my office chair a new lease of life
This gas lifter replaced my old chair lifter, which never worked properly from new. This appears to be good quality and easy to fit.It goes up and down with ease and fit my office chair perfectly. The only minor issue is it does make a bit of a clunk as I sit in the chair, I think this is just because it is new. I will update this review if it changes in any way.But at present would I recommend or buy again, yes to both.Note: I watched a few youtube videos on how to release the old lifter, in the end, I removed the base and wheels from the chair (4 Allen bolts). I place the wheels star part upside down between 2 chairs for support and hit the base of the lifter with a lump hammer, this only took 2 hits and the post was free.To remove the post from the seat base I put the base in a bench vice then fitted a mole grip to the post, it only took 2 turns and the post came out.I hope these methods prove helpful to you.

Direct replacement for a Markus chair gas-strut.
My 10 yr old Markus office chair has had that sinking feeling for a while and I spotted this gas-strut as a replacement. It took a bit of WD-40 and hide-mallet application to remove the original strut from the chair base. The BiMi dropped straight in to the wheel assembly and the seat support fitted on to the top of of the BiMi. After tightening up the bolts to the seat back and base, my Markus chair was restored. Seat height is spot on for me and no more sinking. Success.

Good Quality.
The quality at first glance is good. These gas lifts don't rattle when you shake them at all like some cheaper made gas lifts that come with office/gaming chairs. This to me suggests they are of decent quality. "Class 4" is embossed on gas lift itself, another good sign.My only complaint is that the picture/diagram describing the different length specifications isn't accurate. The diagram implies the specifications are from the gas button to the base of the main cylinder but they are actually from the top of the cylinder to the base of it. So if you need a specific length, this is something to bare in mind. Maybe the diagram should be changed to reflect this?

How do you remove the existing one ?
I bought an 18 inch pipe wrench. I sprayed WD40 in the area that needed to be released. I left it for 5 minutes an put the chair on its side. I applied the pipe wrench and the gas strut was soon released from the seat. I placed the wheel part on a filing cabinet and used a hammer to hit the gas strut and after two or three hits it fell out.The replacement strut was inserted and so far works brilliantly. So much better than buying a new chair at£ 150.00. The pipe wrench cost £ 20.00 but the job was easy to do with the right tools. You get more force with 18 " rather than a shorter pipe wrench.
