William Mitchell Calligraphy Set - Calligraphy Selection Set

William Mitchell used to be my favorite brand. Until I got this set. There are very good and bad points to this set. First, the good: most of the nibs are very good. Specifically, the italic nibs and the scroll nibs. They work well and hold a good deal of ink before having to dip the pen again. The witch pen is decent but not of great quality. Gets the job done, but it's kind of weak, so hope you're not heavy handed. The case is fine. Now, the bad: some of the times on the nibs needed to be re-alligned. The post office pen was hopeless. Tried to get the times back in to allignment, but to no avail. That particular nib does not fit the pen holder very well and loses ink quickly. This is a review of the second set I received after the first was of unacceptable quality. A big decrease in the quality I'm used to from William Mitchell.

I bought this case as a beginner to start calligraphy. The shipping took a while but was worth the wait. This kit comes with quite a bit of nibs along with a holder. The two-pointed nibs are pretty useless to me and I didn't find a very good use for them. The other nibs however are very good and hold ink fairly well with the inkwell in. The holder is plastic and could look better but is great for a beginner. I wish there were more directions on how to apply ink to the pen and cleaning but you can't have your cake and eat it too.Final word, if you're a beginner , you can't do much better than this kit (though I would suggest a beginners guide to calligraphy). If you're quite proficient at calligraphy than you probably know better than my review, and know to get a better, longer-lasting calligraphy kit. I'm glad with my purchase but an expert or a serious hobbyist would obviously require more.

A decent starter set, but two issues. First, the nibs rust easily; even with proper care and cleaning after each use, they tend to rust rather quickly. Second, the set includes two reservoirs; however, these reservoirs do not fit all of the nibs, rendering several of them effectively useless. (Not sure if I received the incorrect size of reservoirs, or if this is just an oversight.) In my opinion, you're better off buying a nib holder and several nibs (Nikko G highly recommended.)

I was hoping for a kit matching the picture, ya know, a fountain pen set. Instead this is a nib set, so it's going back. I am a beginner at calligraphy and at using the dip pen, and I am finding this set very hard to use. The nibs are stiff and don’t hold much ink at all (you can barely write a full word before having to dip again). And a lot of the time, too much ink flows out at once.

Unfortunately, We recieved a set with a 2 of the same nib (post office) and 1 nib missing. (Elbow copperplate)

I just started with calligraphy. This set is okay. I think it's great for me because I'm just learning it's not a high end set. But it is easy to change the nibs out and clean. Decent. It's a decent product for the price. You get what u pay for

This was a gift and the recipient is very pleased and has no complaints with the quality of construction or performance. The only complaint I have is the extremely long delivery time- it took over one month to arrive. Having said that, it was worth the wait as I could not find this quality of nibs anywhere else. While the long delivery time is a disappointment I won't decrease the star rating as it's the pens that count in the end.
