ESV Archaeology Study Bible Review: the Bible Comes to Life with Archaeological Information - This Bible has so many great features! As a middle school history and language arts teacher, this Bible combines two of my greatest interests: the Lord and history. While I usually prefer reading a KJV translation for enjoyment, I can clearly say after spending the last few days diving into the articles and new information out of pure excitement, that this is my new study companion and a great source to check verses I am confused by from the KJV translation. For those looking for the TLDR: Great bible for everyone, even people like me who have a preference for KJV translations. Review: In my top 5 study Bibles, beats the NIV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible - When I decided to run a weekly Bible study, I spent a lot of time deciding what the format would be. I didn’t want to use published materials; I have post-graduate biblical studies education, so I wanted to just teach what I know. I also wanted structure that would guide how we studied each week. Here’s what I came up with (and how it relates to Crossway’s ESV Archaeology Study Bible): I purchased 12 study Bibles with different themes, like apologetics, archaeology, church history, ancient context, biblical theology, systematic theology, christology, and patristic literature. Each week I select a passage of Scripture to study, then read the corresponding notes and articles in each study Bible, sticky-tabbing the best ones. On study night, each person grabs any study Bible. After reading the passage, we go around the table, and each person reads the notes and/or articles I tabbed. Then we discuss. This format has worked great, and the Archaeology Study Bible is fantastic for two reasons. First, archaeology largely confirms the historical events related by the Bible. This study Bible is a record of archaeological findings that corroborate the narratives of Scripture. That’s exciting, because it connects the biblical world with our own. Second, of the two study Bibles with archaeological content, this one is better. The contender is the NIV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible. I took issue with the very first article I read in that one. I found that it presented its info without incorporating the biblical text it was addressing. By contrast, the Crossway Archaeological Study Bible keeps the biblical text in focus when it presents notes or an article. Of all the study Bibles people reach for when they show up for Bible study night, this is among the top three. My own personal favorite is the Gospel Transformation Study Bible also by Crossway, followed by the Biblical Theology Study Bible by Zondervan. And let’s not leave out the mighty ESV Study Bible, which is the one to get if you only get one. This is a great specialized study Bible if you’re interested in the archaeological data that supports the biblical text. I would get the ESV Study Bible as your primary, but this one is among the top 5 study Bibles I’ve ever used. Buy with confidence!

Great Study Bible
Obviously, I will be reviewing the particular benefits of the ESV Archaeology Study Bible, not the Bible in general or the ESV translation. I preordered this Bible for my husband as a gift. We have both been doing the Daily Walk Bible (another great Bible) for the past two years, and as we read through the Old Testament, he kept remarking on how much he wanted maps of the old civilizations to increase understanding. God is good, and I happened across a small advertisement for this Study Bible and felt that it would fit his need. I was not disappointed! This Bible has plenty of maps that help to clarify geography and much more! For anyone who has read through the entire Bible, especially in the course of a year, you know that reading through the construction of the tabernacle, temple, etc. can be tedious. It is such a game changer to have pictures to help guide you through! It is also great to have pictures of other things as well such as the cedars of Lebanon or time specific artifacts. It helps you to better understand the context of a lot of the language in the Bible. As previously stated, we are reading through the Bible in a year, so we’ve only gotten to 2 Chronicles so far in this Bible, but it has already provided a lot of interesting information. My mother-in-law read through a few pages of it and asked for one for Mother’s Day! So far it has been a great purchase.

MATTHEW 18:11 IS MISSING
Being an enthusiast of Biblical Archaeology I really like this Study Bible!! I eventually purchased 5 copies. I did recently find a printing error though, Whoever proof read or checked off on the printing did not catch that MATTHEW 18:11 IS MISSING. It goes from Matthew 18:10, to Matthew 18:12. It's even words spoken by Jesus, that usually appear in red in a lot Bibles. Hopefully they revise this Bible with Red lettering for Jesus speaking, and add Matthew 18:11, and do a verse by verse checklist in case there's any other errors. It really is a great study Bible otherwise MATTHEW 18:11 "For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost"

Definitely a step up from a standard bible.
My dad was so excited to get this Bible that he has it with him all the time now. He says it has taken his studies to a whole new level.

Nothing on P52?
excellent study Bible, there are many great articles and so for I am happy with the quality. but for some reason I am unable to find any info on Papyrus p52. I thought that that was a very important discovery, and doesn't appear to be mentioned in this study bible.

Hands down the best Bible I've ever owned. What I like most is how incredibly informative and educational it is. The wealth of archaeological insights, combined with the numerous illustrations, maps, and diagrams, truly brings the biblical text to life. It makes understanding the historical and cultural context so much easier and more engaging. I highly recommend it.

Sehr empfehlenswert!

The Bible looks amazing, but I tryed to buy it 2 times, but on both times it came dirty and with a lot of pages were folded on the corners. It's incredible why it doesn’t come protected with a plastic like any other book....

Printed in China, pages are like cigarette papers. Going through it now...
