Was a great TV Box UNTIL they started doing updates!
11-25-2024 UPDATE: They started doing "UPDATES" TO THE BOX and every time they do video gets more jerky and. jumpy. Most video never did play right on full screen, now they won't play won't even play correctly on the smaller video size.Needed a new TV BOX as the old one would not run newer versions of some apps. Once past the learning curve I found it well worth the upgrade. The previous box would do wierd things, like run the video to the end, when using the TV volume control. That is not an issue with this box. I was also delighted to find that the pre-loaded apps could be deleted with leaving their icon on the menu page. So far all but one app downloaded and ran perfectly but it was an older app and easily replaced by a better one. I had been using usb hub for multiple thumb drives for storage and it worked perfectly without having to do anything but plug it in.I have not tried the wifi as I already was set up for wired connections to my Patriot Mobile cellular router but again there was no setup required it recognized the CAT6 cable and router connection instantly. The only real issues are (1) the little keyboard doesn't seem to have a very good range. No problems though I have an almost full size keyboard I much prefer anyway and (2) there doesn't seem to be a pause button on the remote. You can use the "mouse" and run the arrow all over the screen to hit the pause on the screen with the up/down/right/left keys on the remote but it's not so handy. Again my almost full size keyboard has a pause button but it would be handier some times on the remote. I will admit though that it could just be me and I'm not seeing it.For the price though I am more than happy.

Works, but quirky
This is, indeed, an Android-based set-top box. And for basic functions, it works adequately. But there are a lot of quirks. You might think that the LED thing on the front is a nifty feature. It's not. It's too small to be read from normal TV viewing distance, it's too dim to read during the day yet also bright enough to be annoying in the dark. That keyboard controller that comes with it is pretty nifty, and you can *almost* use that in conjunction with a key remapper link to do stuff like make keys do different things (like, who wants an "email" key on a set-top box; let's make it start an app that we do use instead). Unfortunately, when the device reboots, the app permission that any key remapper needs gets reset. You can't set the device's name. That's probably not a big problem to very many, and even for me it's just a minor annoyance. But it's just one more example of how this acts oddly. Its launcher app is pretty lame, too. While I can confirm that it does work adequately for basic media streaming, the CPU really struggles with any real load. So it doesn't feel at all responsive.I don't think these are defects of this particular instance of the device. I suspect that these are inherent issues shared by all "x88 Pro" boxes, so if you think that's what you need, then I'm pretty confident that this one is as good in quality as any.

Disappointed after just a couple months...
UPDATE: Not only did the mini keyboards take a crap, and replacing them both costs as much as one of the boxes, but the sound on BOTH boxes is now dropping every minute or so for a few seconds. What a huge disappointment!!We ordered 2 of the boxes July 10, 2024. So we've had them just under 2 months. So far, the boxes are great. Few complaints. The wireless mini keyboards, on the other hand, both took a crap within 3 days of each other. Both are fully charged, and the lights are working, but they will not connect to the USB and function whatsoever.VERY aggravating and disappointing...
