Works so far
So far this has worked fine and the AA batteries have lasted for a couple of weeks. This smoke detector is standard except for use of AA batteries, and so far I don't have any view either positive or negative. It does seem to be expensive compared to those from the same seller that use a 9 volt battery. Glad to have it but I think I may just plan to go with the 9 volt version.

simple smoke detector -just what I needed
VERDICTBuy if you need a smoke detectorWHYKidde is a known brand for smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. It's a simple device and serves its purpose. The build quality of the device looks quite decent. Something unique is that it includes a special dust cover meant to allow people to install the smoke detector and continue with building the room or remodeling (the protector keeps dust and other stuff out). When the room is ready, the protector can be removed. Pretty good design overall.

A trusted brand AND AA batteries!
The Kidde brand has been around for a number of years, and produces reliable, trusted equipment. We needed a new smoke detector to replace one we've had for too many years (they are usually recommended to be replaced every 10 years to assure the best performance). Looking at known brands, we saw this model by Kidde that takes AA batteries - yes, please! And Kidde even starts you off by including 2 AAs with their detector! Like many homes, we are far more likely to always have AA batteries on hand rather than those square 9 volts which almost always mean needing to buy some, further delaying a very important task. From now on, that need never happen for us.

Uses AA Batteries and Batteries are Included
This is a nicely designed basic smoke detector that’s very easy to install. The biggest selling feature for me was that it uses AA batteries, which are something we usually have around the house. I can’t even count the number of times that one of our smoke detectors which uses 12 volt batteries started chirping due to low battery life, and we didn’t have any 12 volt batteries in the house. We’d end up going for days or weeks without the detector because we kept forgetting to buy the 12 volt batteries. This Kidde Smoke Detector will be much safer since the AA batteries will get replaced immediately. A small green LED light on the face lets you know that the alarm is operating properly. Arrives with 2 AA batteries pre-installed.

Handy battery operated photoelectric smoke detector
Handy battery photoelectric smoke detector for close proximity to cooking appliances. I got this for my moms kitchen, her current one goes off every time she cooks and usually has the batteries removed. It sits on her refrigerator so she can silence it easy. I installed this one and left her old one powered up for a test. As she cooked her old one went off and this one did not. This is powered by 2 AA batteries (included), I'm use to seeing 9-volt batteries. It includes several indicators (Beeps and LED flashes) for failures, low battery and end of life etc. Claims to last 10 years. Seems like a good value for the cost.
