SOUTHERN STYLE NUTS Gourmet Hunter Mix, 4 oz (Pack of 6)

Discovered these a few years ago when I was shopping at Marshall's. I picked them up to bring with me hunting. My dad and brother like them too and they make for a good snack while sitting in a tree freezing your tail off.

This was our first and last time ordering. Today is December 22nd and we received our 6 bag order, and they all have an expiration date of January 13th. That would explain the taste, disappointed.

This is a different type of mix for me, usually going for a more chex mix style, or something like trail mix. I really like it though, the seeds and sesame sticks are great flavor. It is a bit calorie dense, but a good snack to grab when heading outside.

Southern Style Nuts Spicy Hunter Mix (red label, ***½) contain cashews, as shown on the bag's picture, from India, Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia, Ghana, while pepitas (pumpkin seeds) are from China, Mexico - hopefully less polluted areas, are packed in US, have a nice springy and crunchy texture (not too hard of roasted almonds), pleasant sweetness, but not the best flavor, they are quite pricey, and have 180 calories in every 1 oz (28 g). The dominant notes of the taste come from numerous cashews, but their original strength is diluted by cheapening, clearly detectable notes of also numerous peanuts. The Gourmet (not said Spicy) Hunter Mix (green label) contains (almost) no cashews, as shown on the bag's picture, tastes like... peanuts, is quite unremarkable and definitely not worth its price. ALL HUNTER MIX BAG PICTURES SHOW HONESTLY AND WELL WHAT INSIDE. Six 4-oz bags cost $21.85 ($0.91/oz), while 3-lb KIRKLAND WALNUTS only $21.56 ( or less ) or $0.45/oz, i.e. a half. So, the Mix's 2 times higher price cannot be justified... in my opinion regardless of its freshness. There is a mysterious note reading: "Possibly produced with GE". I hope "GE" does not mean here "General Electric", but... who knows. Despite my quite sensitive stomach, 20 min. after finishing eating more than 3 oz the Mix, it did not cause an aftertaste, as macadamias did. However, after eating approx. the same amount of just almonds or sunflower seeds containing the same amount of calories, i.e. 180 cal/oz, I felt more satisfied and was not feeling hungry for much longer than after eating Hunter Mix especially the Gourmet and less the Spicy. In other words, almonds or sunflower seeds are better snacks when you want and try to lose weight.

This order arrived as a 4 Oz bag of trail mix containing almonds, cashews, pepitas, sesame sticks and sunflower kernels (among a few more). Spice is added for good taste but it is not pronounced. You can eat a bag full at work and skip lunch if you’re very busy at your desk. Check it out – I like the “hunter” mix.

I liked the mix of nuts and sesame sticks. I like the 6 separate packages which makes sure the nuts etc. stay fresh and can be kept closed tightly before use.

Stale despite distant expiration date! Disappointed!

In my house, we eat a lot of snacks, and it's generally cookies and crackers and things like that. I do try to find some healthier alternatives once in a while, and this snack mix is so yummy! All the right ingredients and my entire family, even the picky teenage boy, loved it.
