Alder Wood Pure Charcoal is an ecologically produced, 100% natural lump-wood charcoal. Its produced from white alder; a sustainable source grown in European forests. With its low humidity content, Alder Wood Pure Charcoal ignites quickly and is easy to use – no lighter fluid is needed, simply start the fire by lighting a piece of paper! Due to its specialised production, where the charcoal is heated evenly throughout, together with its larger size (charcoal pieces ranging from 5 -12+ cm), Alderline Wood Pure Charcoal provides an even burning temperature throughout cooking. Alder Wood Pure Charcoal is completely purified during its production and therefore doesn’t create smoke or pollution whilst burning. The charcoal contains no tar or toxins and is completely natural. Alderline Pure Wood Charcoal is a very clean product, who else would dare put charcoal in such a light coloured bag? Even right down to its 3-layer packaging featuring a middle film to ensure the charcoal doesn’t get wet, Alderline Wood Pure Charcoal ensures a high-quality product at all times. This charcoal is restaurant quality. Alderline will not spit, provides an even cooking temperature for longer and is ready to use in as little as 10 minutes. Most charcoal is sold in kilograms, however this charcoal is so much lighter than its competitors, due to its incredibly low moisture content, that the weight of the bag almost becomes irrelevant. Whilst these bags average 6-7 kilos, the volume is equivalent to many other brands 12 kilo bags. The extremely low moisture content is the reason it is so light and also the reason this charcoal is so very easy to ignite. You will also find that unlike most other brands of charcoal, where you will find lots of dust and smaller unusable pieces at the bottom of the bag (also adding to the weight) - Alderline Wood Pure Charcoal's weight is based almost purely on usable charcoal pieces. You will find very little waste. Produced by an FSC and REACH certified company!

I like this charcoal; it burns rather well
After my unimpressed experience with a brand of briquettes, an Australian favourite I gathered, I decided to try lump charcoal. The brands seemed endless and the reviews on Amazon and the web don’t seem to show a clear favourite. So, after seemingly endless searches and reading reviews, I took a punt and bought this product.I was pleased that it is as easy to light in my chimney starter as the briquettes. It reaches a very high temperature and burns for 45 minutes at least. What is more, the lumps are neither too big nor too small. And the 50L bag goes a long way. Equally pleasant is the lack of the unpleasant lighter fuel smell that I got from the briquettes even though they were not easy light briquettes.I am new to all of this bbq business and would like to try other charcoals. However, I anticipate I shall be back for another bag of Tigerbox Alderline Alder Wood charcoal very soon.Update: 27 August 2019. I have just ordered my third bag since my first review. I have logged a few more BBQ hours under my belt and I must say that I am still very satisfied with this charcoal. I have not tried any other brands to compare, but I’d be surprised if there is a significant difference between similar priced charcoals. Compared to the high street brands at petrol stations and super markets, this charcoal isn’t cheap. I know I am going to try them some day when I need charcoal in an emergency. Until then and until I learn of a brand that promises to blow my BBQ mind away, I shall be sticking with Tigerbox Alderline Alder Wood charcoal. Happy BBQ!

Nice large lumps
Nice large lumps, high dust content, delivered carefully. Low sparking, high ash production, average heat production. Sustains 450-500C pizza cooks on the Kamado for about 20min which is not as long as Premium Restaurant Grade Lumpwood Charcoal. Fine for standard grilling at 200-250C. High ash production will eventually choke smoking temperature at 130C so will not sustain long 10-hour cooks.

Best charcoal I have ever purchased.
Ignited so easily. Chunky pieces makes you use less. No dust at bottom of bag. Big 50l bag arrived well sealed within a strong re-usable bag. Does not smoke as much as other restaurant quality good brands. Burns long. Nice clean taste to food. As a South African ( bbq mad country), I would buy this again and again and again. You will for sure get many bbq's done with one bag.

Good quality, nice flavour, best if you limit available air
I used this on a BGE, having tried other 'restaurant grade' coals, like those blue 12kg bags you see found they were inconsistent in quality and quite spitty/sparky and always went back to official BGE charcoal. This is very different, good sized chunks, glassy with metalic sheen, it's very well made and very dry, i'd says it's a less dense wood, lights very easily and gets to temp quick. If you choke the air down it lasts a while (even the instructions say limit air once at temp), if you leave the air all open to get very hot (for pizzas etc >350c) it doesn't last very long and you'll be topping up. If you can't limit air on your bbq it might not last very long.EDIT:Meant to add, it looses a star to the price/how much you get.It gives a very nice neutral flavor, which is welcome tbh, as the BGE charcoal of oak & hickory can be a bit heavy when you just want a classic british bbq. It tastes more like the UK BBQs I had growing up.I'd buy it again and it's a good compliment to BGE coal when you don't want the hickory or oak.

Best BBQ coal I've ever bought
I tried this because the neighbours kept faking coughs and complaining about people having bonfires when we tried to have a BBQ so we haven't had one for about 4 years for fear of upsetting them. I ordered this to see if it worked as per the description. Last week the neighbours were clearly away so we tried this coal and it is brilliant. It lights without fire lighters and hardly smokes at all. Even when they get back and their 17/18 year old boys play football in their back garden we can still have BBQs without fear of upsetting them. Brilliant coal.

Charming charcoal
I usually do not write comments, but there are some products worth spending my time to tell others about them and this is definitely charcoal I would recommend 100%.It is very high quality product - big lumps, no spiting, cooks evenly, long lasting and best part - on my BGE reach temperature very quickly and is easy to control it.I like to cook on charcoal because it gives great flavour to food and this is one of the most important things for me, it is worth every penny. Now I see what restaurant quality charcoal is.I highly recommend this product, it is worth to try it and use it.

The best yet.
The best I’ve used so far in my Kamado, large chunks, they burned steadily for 8 hours in my grill, I’ll definitely buy this product again.

Its ok. Despite being in nice big chunks I found it doesn't last anywhere near as long as other providers i have used, it burns hot and qyuick, i found i was continually having to use more than i thought, or even adding to the BBQ again and again.
