Product Description It was a stroke of genius. But now the perfect crime is turning into a perfect disaster in this madcap comedy featuring Academy Award® winners MORGAN FREEMAN (Best Supporting Actor, Million Dollar Baby, 2004), CHRISTOPHER WALKEN (Best Supporting Actor, The Deer Hunter, 1978), MARCIA GAY HARDEN (Best Supporting Actress, Pollock, 2000) and Academy Award® nominee WILLIAM H. MACY (Best Supporting Actor, Fargo, 1996). Charles, Roger and George are the very picture of honest security guards. But when they learn their favorite artworks are being sent to another museum, they concoct a plan to switch the real masterpieces with fakes. All goes well until a mistake forces these first-time thieves into a last-minute escapade in the comedy caper that proves you're never too old to have some new fun. .com Any movie starring Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, William H. Macy, and Marcia Gay Harden carries with it the expectation of good things, and The Maiden Heist does not disappoint. Roger (Walken), Charlie (Freeman), and George (Macy) are all guards at a Boston art museum. Each has one piece to which he is virtually addicted; Roger waxes rhapsodic about a (fictional) 19th-century post-naturalist painting called "The Lovely Maiden," referring to the subject's "desperate longing and overwhelming passion," while Charlie loves another painting and night guard George likes to strip off his clothes and pose like his favorite statue after hours. When the three learn that the insufferable young curator plans to sell the three works (and others) to a Danish museum, replacing them with depictions of animal genitalia and similar atrocities, they are inconsolable. They consider moving to Denmark, which doesn't sit too well with Roger's wife (Harden), who has her heart set on a vacation trip to sunny Florida. But George, a tightly wound former Marine (he took part in Operation Urgent Fury, the invasion of Grenada), has an alternative plan: arrange to have replicas of the pieces made, and then replace the real ones with the fakes during the move. It doesn't take Nostradamus to predict that complications will ensue. The heist itself is poorly planned, to say the least, and quickly turns into a fiasco; but these are likable characters (as the tag line says, "They're not bad guys--just bad thieves"), and, well, everything will probably turn out OK. Directed by Peter Hewitt, The Maiden Heist is unlikely to pose a threat to Citizen Kane as one of the great moments in cinematic history, but it has a light touch, a great cast, and plenty of charm. Bonus material includes a "making of" featurette and audio commentary. --Sam Graham

Casual comedy, I loved it.
Mr. Walken usually plays dramatic roles, this one is toned down for him. Same with freeman, it's just low and slow, but funny. And I really enjoyed it.

Totally charming
Christopher Walken, Marcia Gay Harden, Morgan Freeman and William H. Macy--too perfect. I love paintings, so that may be a nice start to really appreciate this film. The humor is very subtle here--chess pieces as people substitutes with quick animation in mapping the heist, Marcia Gay Harden's nose peeking out from the barely opened door as she listens to her husband (Walken) telling her he has plans for them to travel, her sweet cradling of his head when she tells him she's seen him relaxed, Freeman with his kitties and hidden talent of wonderful drawings...The acting is wonderful, and the director does a fine job of balancing with such an abundance of talented team playing.

Slow but entertaining.
A great cast in a type of movie you seldom see them in. With subtle humor it tells of three museum guards, each obsessed with a work of art, who find out their favorite pieces are being moved permanently to Amsterdam. During their dull lives guarding these works of arts they spend endless hours at work dreaming of the pictures (although William H. Macy has a weird nude obsession with a sculpture). Now that they are panicking over losing their art pieces they decide to steal them. These senior citizens without a clue of what they are doing set out on the heist. I found it very humorous and worth a look.

Not worth your time, sadly
I thought, with the super acters listed, the movie would be, at least, 'OK'We (in our 70's) both felt the time spent watching this movie ... was 'wasted'. We haven't felt this disappointed in years.Definitely our favorite stars ... ... What were they thinking?was it the producer? Are rating ... don't waste your time waiting for this movie to show up. (We are not knocking delivery time ... which was excellent)

3 Security Guards with odd fixations on artwork band together to save the works and find friendship along the way.
Funny fluff piece. Three security guards discover that the art exhibit is moving to the Netherlands. In an effort to save the works they've each become attached to, they decide to steal the works. The movie moves quickly. The characters are lovingly played by actors we know and love. There are some nice touches of realism added to give breadth and depth to the piece. You will have to suspend your disbelief a little. Playful, you will laugh at the odd idosycracis of each piece and Walken is a wonder. Love that Morgan Freeman is superfluous. Nice ending.

very funny, must watch
Security guards in love with a piece of art, each his own. Gay guard is very talented artist who has been trying to capture that "glow" that the masterpiece exudes. Exmilitary guard is obsessed with naked warrior, and is constantly taking his clothes off to imitate him. One realizes that the artwork he's obsessed with reminds him he's married to the love of his life.

Pleasant, unremarkable
A great cast got plugged into a very mediocre script, with painful moments of forced physical comedy that made for slow, unfunny viewing.Three older museum guards develop obsessions for specific pieces of art. Each piece of art reveals something about the characters that isn't immediately obvious, but would become apparent to anyone who knew them well. Roger (Walken) is drawn to the image of a mysterious, lonely woman on a beach. George (Macy) is so obsessed with the bronze statue of a naked warrior that he strips to the buff and poses near it. Charles (Freeman) adores the painting of a woman feeding many cats. When the guards learn their art is being moved to Denmark, they decide to substitute fakes and steal the real art.Not a bad recipe, but the ingredients are combined with a heavy, unimaginative hand. If you're a Macy fan, The Maiden Heist is worth watching once. Walken had a lot of screen time, but even his brand of wonderful personal weirdness was under-used. Freeman's character was just wrong; someone apparently thought he should be channeling a little old cat woman who might be sexually ambiguous, and that would be funny. But there's nothing really funny about The Maiden Heist. It's a pleasant, unremarkable 90 minutes you'll start forgetting as soon as the credits roll.

Wouldn’t recommend
Unfortunately myself and my husband were very disappointed with this film, despite the great actors in it, the actual storyline and plot was not good at all. Such a shame!

Disappointing film
Didn't live up to my expectations given the cast list. Thought the ending was very disappointing - felt as if they didn't know quite how to finish it off. Will probably watch it again, but not on a regular (or even semi-regular) basis like I do so many others I own with Morgan Freeman in.
