Must Read for Pro-life Christians
Mr. Alcorn presents his readers with a fair view of the moral dilemma of taking Oral Contraception. Within the pro-life community, there is contention as to whether the pill and other contraceptives are morally acceptable to use. Whether these methods are logically consistent with the stance that life begins at conception and deserves protection. Mr. Alcorn has done us the service of looking through the evidence of how the pill and other contraceptives work. He finds that there are 3 ways they work, and that the 3rd way is the one of moral importance. He poses the question of whether this 3rd backup method is abortifacient in nature or not. Coming to the conclusion based on the medical and scientific evidence presented in his book, that the answer is unfortunately yes, he then asks the moral implications of this knowledge. Ultimately, while his logic is given and solid, the choice of what to do with this knowledge is left to us readers. For those Christian couples who take the time to read this book, I would also recommend reading This Is Your Brain On Birth Control by Dr. Sarah E. Hill, for more information on how BC pills work inside the body. And finally, for those who come to agree with Mr. Alcorn and want to learn an alternative method that doesn't risk human life, I recommend reading Taking Control of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler, MPH.

Outstanding research presented in a easy to read and humble format.
Argh. I wanted this book to be a silly religious polemic. Instead it was a very well researched and objective study of the pill from a Christian perspective. Like the author I was hoping that he would have come to a resounding "No!" for an answer. However he came to the conclusion of yes.The author was very humble and well researched. He didn't cut corners or soften the blow. Other than the scientific stuff it was a very fast read, and even the science was written in such a way that it was understandable to the average person with a knowledge of High School science. My favorite part of the book and the part I found the most telling is when he said that he never gets any push back from non-Christians scientists or MDs. They all agree that in some cases all 44 versions of the birth control pill cause a type of abortion. It is the Christian MDs and pro-life Christians who push back because they don't want to know the truth.

The Shocking Truth
This is phenomenal! I am a nurse and in all my pharmaceutical classes-- I never learned any of this.Randy Alcorn does a very very thorough job with his research, there is no room for doubt after I read this book. The birth control pills clearly have the potential to cause abortions, unknowingly.Am I willing to sacrifice the life of my child by taking hormonal pills (or injections, or IUDs)?I appreciate that he states at the end of his book that he wishes his findings weren't true. The truth is very grim- we have unknowingly been taking pills that have potentially snuffed the life out of our unborn child. I appreciate his honesty in this, and yet he could say that there was no way to avoid the truth. Please read this with an open heart.I also recommend "Family UnPlanning" by Craig Houghton as well as "Be Fruitful and Multiply".

Excellent Eye Opening Book
I recommend this book to all my friends. This book is excellent and very eye opening. Randy Alcorn is frank about the fact that he didn't go into this with a bias. He's not simply trying to disprove birth control. He really is searching for answers and he went to the right sources to find them. The information this book uncovers is invaluable and it is the responsibility of every woman to KNOW the effects of such widely used methods.

Justified
I must admit that I read this book with vested interests. My wife and I had been using the pill for a while so that I could finish graduate school before we had children (I am getting a Master's in theology as a Southern Baptist preacher). However, the strong empirical and logical arguments from this book changed my mind concerning the effects of all BCPs (birth control pills). I promise you that if you read this book and evaluate the research and examine the cogency of Alcorn's arguments with an objective mindset, you will be convinced of the abortifacent effects of BCPs. As a Christian and strong pro-life advocate, I cannot ignore the valid research which strongly suggests that BCPs are not only contraceptive in nature, but also abortifacent. I encourage to read this book very carefully.
