A Timeless Guide to Living with Wisdom and Resilience
The modern translation of Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations" by Felix R. Buchwald offers an exceptional blend of ancient wisdom and contemporary applicability. This edition not only presents the profound thoughts of the Roman emperor in an accessible language but also includes unique workbook exercises that encourage personal reflection and growth. The book's format allows readers to engage actively with Stoic philosophy, applying its teachings to modern life challenges. a great way to apply the lessons learned!
this isnt the kind of book to be read just once, it should be a toolkit or reference as you navigate life, this is the trait of a great book I believe. The ideas and learnings in this book are simple but naturally hard to implement, so it should be read many times. After all, what worth having comes easy?

Lucid, simple and refreshing
Today Marcus Aurelius is considered as the quintessential Stoic. I have four different translations of the Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and this one by Felix Buchwald is the fifth. Felix's translation is a refreshing take on the enduring classic and presents the deep insights of the famous Roman emperor in a very clear and concise language. It does away with complex annotations, cross-references, the history of Meditations etc. as seen in other translations. Furthermore, Felix avoided numbering of the individual passages - so the entire chapters read in a flow. (The only downside being I can not compare individual verses between the different translations so easily as there are no verse numbers). Felix has also added thought provoking questions at the end of each chapter - basically prompting and encouraging the reader to reflect, introspect and try to incorporate the wisdom in our daily lives. We all know that the Meditations is not a single-time read. You can keep coming to it and learning everytime you open its pages. These questions can also serve to help you understand how your perspective to life and things around you have changed over time. All in all, definitely a good addition. A thin book that can be easily carried in a bag - that you can keep as your personal bible always.
