I got these retainers to use on a set of vortec heads I was planning on using for a slightly warmed up sbc for my wife's 95 k1500They were supposed to give me some extra valve guide clearance they work awesome with a set of comp cams LS4 springs I mocked it all up and with the lunati voodoo cam I chose at .488 lift I had .024 clearance they are just as they stated only thing is I created myself a tuning nightmare with the gm TBI injection on her truck cause if the cam fits I am using it is the way I see it so quite a few hours and around 900 bucks later I now can burn my own proms to set the fuel and ignition tables for the engine to run right and know just about how far you can go with factory TBI

A must have for vortec head swap if you want to go over about a .0440 lift..
I made the mistake when I installed a cam with .0480 lift without enough clearance and bent every push tube almost instantly. I paired these with some GM behive springs from a LS4 and they work perfectly. Measured a max lift of over .0500 possible. Sure would have saved me a ton of extra work if I did my research and installed these first. No machining necessary to run a big cam.

Vortec Head upgrade
I paired this with:GM Parts 12499224 Valve SpringCompetition Cams 648-16 7 degree Race locksRemoved stock springs and retainers off my Vortec heads and added these for more lift between the valve stem seal and spring retainer. I have about .505-,520 lift with this combo and I could get a little more by changing the valve stem seals. The valve springs fit with no machine work and are much nicer than the original springs when it comes to coil bind. Cheap upgrades for more lift capability. Perfect for pairing with 1.6 rockers.

Good alternative solution to machine work!
These retainers are perfect for installing LSX beehive style valve springs onto SBC Vortec cylinder heads. I chose these so that I could run factory L92 LS style springs in conjunction with a 280H Flap tappet hydraulic Comp Cam. Reused the stock Vortec keepers with no problems at all. This is a very good solution to get a stouter spring without having to cut the Vortec seat pockets.
