Brilliant film
I watched this many years ago and it always stuck with me. I really enjoyed it and I'm not exactly sure why. I love Debra Winger and Terri Russell and all the actors in this movie. The storyline is good, although it probably could've been fleshed out a bit more, like for example, looking at Renny's childhood and the reasons why she did what she did. But, the music and the ambience was great. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable 80s thriller.

BLACK WIDOW (CHEAPER DISC (£9)) DVD from Fox
Good quality transfer 16.9 ratio, good colour, clear picture, sound and good subtitles and some nice extras. The film is almost great. Led by two very powerful actresses. So different and sexy in their own way. Winger is an FBI investigator looking into suspicious deaths she thinks caused by Theresa Russell as a the "Black Widow" who will keep marrying very rich men and then....Paced slowly, building up to the final half of the film when they meet and spar verbally until the climax. The climax is why I can only give 4 stars. To explain my thinking would be a Spoiler and I don't do them. Suffice to say it was a real anti climax as far as I was concerned. Pity because this mostly a very god Noir type thriller well played by the 2 ladies. Recomended because you may not be as disapointed with the end as I was.

Old story new actors
I bought this film thinking it was Marvel's Black Widow. It kept me interested and the ending was not what I expected. Worth a view.

“I’ll tell you two things about me……” [Black Widow version with silhouette of man in doorway]
In this 1987 film noir crime thriller Catherine (Theresa Russell) is a femme fatale who marries wealthy men before murdering them. Justice Department agent ‘Alex’ Barnes (Debra Winger) stumbles onto one of the murders and soon uncovers a pattern so Alex goes undercover to track down Catherine and identify the next potential victim. The titles open to a suitably dramatic soundtrack and the overall style harks back to those big detective movies of the forties. The acting of the two leads is superb and although entertaining throughout, it really comes into its own when the two women actually meet and begin to play off against one another. The single disc offers play, scene selection and language selection [6 European languages and most European languages as subtitles]. Rated 15, there is some swearing and some nudity in the form of a nipple and backside shot, but it’s quite tame and with a host of well developed supporting characters this is highly entertaining. This times out at 97:45 not 102 minutes, but this is the full version [it’s just that the transfer is slightly fast] and despite a handfull of badly edited scenes, remains a good evening view.

BLACK WIDOW
I FIRST WATCHED THIS FILM WHEN I WAS PRETTY YOUNG, AND I'VE ALWAYS WANTED IT FOR MY COLLECTION, MAINLY DUE TO THE CHARMING, DEADLY AND STRONG-IN THEIR OWN WAY- FEMALE LEADS. OK, IT LOOKS RATHER DATED NOW BUT IT RETAINS MOST OF ITS CHARM AND THE TWO LEADING ACTRESSES, MISS WINGER AND MISS RUSSEL ARE LOVELY!

Very poor audio
I downloaded this film yesterday. The soundtrack was seriously out of sync with the film which ruined our enjoyment.

This is how a bluray should look like.
This is an outstanding bluray release by signal one entertainment. And in my opinion this is how all blurays should look like. The Colors are rich and the blacks are really deep and the details are crisp. It's an underrated thriller starring the always enigmatic Theressa Russell and Debra winger and directed by Bob Rafelson.Highly recommended for the picture quality and the entertaining subject matter.Like another reviewer said, thank you Signal One for a tremendous release.
