Well I'd say it's similar to an American 1100 as far as pinning, but these have 7 pins rather than 5. On r/lockpicking these rank blue belt, I'd say they are very formidable for new pickers and a good practice lock for higher skilled pickers. They also have the Loto version PL-410 pro with the same core and key. The drivers have spools and serrated pin and the key pins have serrations as well.

Q: how / where can I get a back-up key?

Your local Locksmith can make additional keys. Additionally, Paclock sells kits with more cores and locks if you want to do it yourself and know what you're doing when it comes to locks. Copying this key is not a job for the big box hardware stores.

Q: What is the shackle diameter? will it fit a pelican 1535 air case?

Pelican cases have 5/16" lock hasp holes (Pelican's website gives you this information), and this lock has a 1/4" shackle. It should be the perfect size for your case (I am buying this lock for the same purpose).

Find a locksmith that can impression, they can make a working key.
