Buy multiple copies of this book to hand out to your team members
I was fortunate to be forwarded a pre-release copy of this book about a month before release - here are my first thoughts:First, you can read this in one sitting, so I recommend carving out an hour or two sitting uninterrupted from your emails/texts and concentrating solely on this book. This book is worth your undivided attention.Mr. Lembie’s approach in this book is articulate yet very personal. Many people have known Damon for decades (such as myself), and admire and respect him greatly. If you’ve never met him, or you have met him in the past and wanted to have an intimate conversation with him, then look no further than this book. This book is a 1-on-1 conversation with Damon Lembi. When I started reading the first chapter, one of the first items to quickly catch my attention was his detail in calling out the infamous career-limiting "Imposter Syndrome," which can limit or completely cripple a career in its prime. This problem haunts the best of us, as it did to me decades ago. Damon's solutions for this issue are simple and easy to implement giving you the three steps to beat this syndrome before it starts. This might be worth the read for most of us and I wish I have had these pearls of wisdom in the 90’s.Later on, he discusses the “Lucky Curse”, something I didn’t suffer through, but hearing him discuss it in such a personal matter and how he dealt with this, and with such clarity of mind, brings me back to the dozens of times in our friendship when we were sitting by a fire having an after-dinner drink discussing our lives for hours on end. These are examples from just the first chapter! I don't have room to write down all the incredible information here.Lembi's real-life examples from business and his personal life are woven throughout the book and keep you riveted to the ideas he is making. His simple, yet complex voicing is spot-on and soothing, giving you the confidence you need to have.Literally, you’ll finish this book and start repeasting to yourself: "This can be done in my life!", "I am a great leader", and "I cannot wait to get to work on these ideas!"If you are trying to build a team, keep a team together, take a step up as a leader, or just looking to start a business, then do not go further without reading this book at least twice.I love Brit Millers' review statement of: "... its today's 2.0 version of How to Win Friends & Influence People.", which is poignant and couldn't be stated more clearly on how this book will change your life.My only frustration with this book is that I didn't have it 30 years ago!Make your personal and business life easier right now by reading this book...“Very little of my real education was learned in classrooms from professors. I was an avid student, but not much of a scholar.” -- D. Limbe

Who I want to be
Reading this book I kept thinking this is who I want to be. The star college athlete and rock and roll parties would be nice (and made for some great stories!) but really it was the everyday approach to life and leadership that hooked me. The perspective is so nicely balanced which is something I don't feel you always get in books like these. Yes, you want to be a positive presence for your team, to take risks and have the courage to be bold and decisive. But at the same time you don't want to be Pollyanna positive. You need to know when to cut your losses, how to grieve before you learn and grow. It's realistic rather than simplistic. I appreciated that a lot. Tons of good advice. Good structure. Great perspective. I especially liked the first section on traits and behaviors and in particular a whole chapter on the importance of curiosity. Loved that decision-making sits underneath curiosity! That was surprising and totally makes sense. And, like I mentioned earlier, great stories.

In the Trenches
The book takes you through so many lessons about interacting with people, dealing with failure, humility, motivating, importance of listening, not being stubborn & set in your own ways, and ultimately how to get people inspired and moving in a direction to maximize their goals. It's 28 yrs of being in the trenches with the real world personal experience, coupled with Damon being a life long learner where he applies his experiences with some of the professional tools that are available for personal development. The sports stories are very relatable and are so invaluable when talking about never giving up, dealing with failure, self doubt, and plowing through adversity. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their relationships with people, business people looking to move up or start their own businesses, or quite frankly anyone looking to just be a better person .... its today's 2.0 version of How to Win Friends & Influence people.

WOW! Someone finally nailed it.
Lembi takes leadership off the beaten path and gets cozy. He breaks down what it takes to attract, retain and guide talent and create remarkable workplaces, communities, relationships, and profits! You can tell he is a student of life and shares his best practices and what he has seen emulated in that of his clients, work partners, mentors, and those he's studied. As an instructional design major, lifelong learning drew me to the field and the notion and idea that we're not done being 'formed' or finished learning when we hit finish our traditional/formal education.I found the book charismatic, relatable, and consumable. It is a breath of fresh air in the crowded business leadership sector, and certainly takes it up a few notch in the L&D world. The actionable insights and takeaways have inspired me to implement them in my own workplace. #letsgo
