Paydirt!
I debated buying this book for years, but when the second edition came out and I heard an interview with the author on CDBaby's podcast, I decided to take the plunge. I'm a home recordist. Released a couple of CDs commercially, basically by using "studio in the box" recorders. Recently started going digital and using Logic Pro. The learning curve on computer based recording and the general public's taste in music had me somewhat frustrated. I was about 7 pages into this book when I found myself regaining my vision and confidence. It was good to know that some of the industry pros think like I do, and value dynamics over the sheer volume of some of today's recording. Some of the incredibly incredibly expensive equipment that they so casually refer to is beyond the reach of most home recordists, but there are a lot of basic tips here in a variety of areas, and some of their unconventional approaches to recording are fascinating. This is definitely a book worth reading.

Fun read, but not that many methodologies mentioned.
Please let me explain the reasoning for the low score.I was looking to this book to provide ideas/new methodologies...which is what I got from volume 1. In spades.I read Volume 1 with a pen in my hand to underline/mark all the things that I might consider or recording/mixing "tips". When I was done the book had a -lot- of things underlined/noted.Hardly happened at all with volume two...with the exception of the Clarke Scheicher interview. It was well written, but after the 6th engineer/mixer is asked, "How do you feel about digital vs. analog?" the responses begin to sound pretty similar. If you're not interested in "tips and tricks", then you may enjoy this more than I did.

I love reading about the greats with their own methods of ...
I had the first edition of this/ these books but got lost in a move so when I saw Volume 2 was out I snatched them both up again.I love reading about the greats with their own methods of madness with miking/ production etc. These are great encyclopaedias on music!

More of a good thing
More inciteful interviews with interesting producers but not quite as detailed and informative as the first book.

Theres so much more than you realize you can get out of these interviews. As good as any other book on audio techniques.

Illuminating
This book made a tremendous impact on my love of music, and what is required to produce the goods. It is both, much easier and more difficult, than I had previously thought to produce high quality audio. I learned volumes from this book (and it's predecessor, BTG I).

Compulsory reading for students of music production
This is not necessarily a how-to-make a-hit book, although there are many "tricks & tips" in its text, but rather a book for those trying understand the art & people side of music production. It can be addictive reading even in the chapters dedicated to less house hold names. For those not familiar with the format, like the first excellent volume it is written in the form of an interview. I'm looking forward to the next volume when i hope he can interview Rick Rubin, Steve Albini & Stephen Street

If you're an audio engineer you HAVE to buy this book
I used this and the other volume for my dissertation in uni. Amazing books with useful insight in the studio world both from a technical and creative aspect. One of the most interesting books I have ever read.

Klasse Buch!
