Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint Featuring Superman

SuperFlashpoint
In 2011, every DC Comics fan was told of a major event happening in that a massive reboot of the entire DC Universe was going to occur and that it would all be in part to a storyline guided by the character of Barry Allen/The Flash. With the last major story having been the Blackest Night and the Brightest Day, Flashpoint would be the last actual story of the Post-Crisis DC Universe. All in part to the machinations of the Flash.Barry Allen finds the world that he had known before has changed from how had remembered. With Barry Allen having been dead for years and then resurrected his memories are muddled. But he is not the only one back from the dead but also his futuristic rival Eobard Thawne/The Reverse-Flash. Barry realizes that his power in tapping the speed force has it so that he cannot change the past, Eobard's power with the negative speed force is different in that change has happened. With Eobard having harmed Barry's own family. This, in turn, causes Barry to try his hardest to change it back. Unfortunately, he wakes up to a world far worse than he could have known.A world in which he would have saved the life of his family but his friends either fail to become heroes or become villains. As this story goes on for Barry attempting to change back the world to the way it was before it was changed, he races against time as the rest of the world goes on to its eventual destruction.Eventually, it does return or should I say reform to what we know as the New 52 DC Universe. Flashpoint becomes an epic read. With a miniseries dedicated to the horrific world that no longer exists. Readers gain incredible insight into just how bad yet at the same time how unique this world was. Each collection of this miniseries has the change called the Flashpoint effect occurring for each of its heroes in various ways. Like it was said in the animated movie, “Ripples of distortion radiated out through that point of impact shifting everything just a tiny bit. But enough. Enough for events to happen slightly differently."This world of Flashpoint is with Superman. But its not just Superman its others as well. Each character has been impacted by the Flashpoint effect. For Superman, his ship was thrown off course and crashed into the city of Metropolis, thankfully the city only endures some damage with it still intact, however, the ship is found by the United States Military as they take the child inside and take him to be studied. It’s the movie E.T. only done to a sweet little boy as General Sam Lane takes his DNA and injects it into a man to become an experimental soldier, don’t have to describe how awful this ends up. Especially when we see what happens to a young Lex Luthor, Krypto, and Lois Lane. Some bits and pieces are mentioned in Flashpoint some are not. Some are so bad I can see why they weren’t shown. The second part of the story deals with Teen Titan Thirteen as she ends up living a much different origin story. Having grown up trying to understand her power while caught up in the war between Atlantis and Themiscyra does change things. It's learned from here just how fractured the world has become. Interesting seeing some characters like Leonid Kovar, Ra’s al Ghul, Adeline Kane, Osiris, and so many others. All this becomes secondary to helping Thirteen looking for hope amidst the chaos of the world. Some nice cameos with other superheroes who don’t fulfill their original destinies like Jason Todd, Guy Gardner, Natasha Irons, Beast Boy, Circe, etc. Not too bad.The third part of this story is downright phenomenal as Booster Gold, the superhero from the future ends up being protected from the changes in the timeline and ends up waking up with most of his memories intact all the while trying to find out what’s going on. It's cool as Booster Gold does this while being hunted down by the US military and its mighty weapon Doomsday. Though being assisted by master time traveler Rip Hunter it’s a mighty and particularly lovely woman named Alexandra who comes to Booster’s help as he does his best to send an important message. The final part of the story deals with some new characters as well as the Wildstorm comics incorporated into this universe. The origin story of the Canterbury Cricket, Mrs. Hyde, Godiva united with Etrigan in the resistance fight against New Themiscyra.I love this collection with Superman, though its mostly with others such as Booster Gold which is a great story itself. Thirteen's story and the Resistance were okay I guess. But well worth a read. Still, there were some other things I would have liked to know about. What happened with Supergirl? My guess is without a Lex Luthor to hunt down Kryptonite he wouldn't have found that giant asteroid that contained her ship. I can only assume other characters became something else without a Superman. Still some pretty good stuff.Very good.

Superman in the World of Flashpoint
Flashpoint. The event of mid 2011 that completely altered DC's timeline to give a very weird reality as well as set up for a new universe altogether. Reading the event itself, Flashpoint, will help give a reader an idea why this world is the way it is. But these mini series are not necessary to Flashpoint itself, they just expand and build on the event and the world itself. This volume contains the three issue series, "Project Superman", "World of Flashpoint", Booster Gold issues 44-47, and the one-shot, "The Cantebury Cricket"."Project Superman" is written by Lowell Francis and co-plotted with Scott Snyder (of recent Batman fame!). The story of Superman in the world of Flashpoint, has the baby of steel's rocketship not landing in Smallsville, Kansas and being found by a kindly couple, but in Metropolis by the U.S. military. The story is interestingly told through the eyes of a soldier who gives his body up to become the ultimate weapon. He is backtracked and shelved due to field duty complications and the arrival of the last son of Krypton. This series is not exceptional but it is an interesting outlook on what if Superman were raised in a hostile environment and could he still be Earth's greatest champion? It is also a nice touch to have the story told through the jealous soldiers' eyes."World of Flashpoint" is the highlight of this collection. We are introduced to Traci 13 a homo-magi, a race of humans that are inherently magical. Tracy 13 and her father witnessed firsthand the destruction of Aquaman's tidal wave of western Europe with the loss of the rest of their family. Traci goes on a warping journey throughout the world to find a way to bring peace to this war torn world, while her father plots with world leaders to use a weapon of mass destruction to eliminate Aquaman and Wonder Woman's armies, as well as millions of innocents. This is a nice take on the world from a character created within the world (pretty sure on that...). Although, we still get Flashpoint versions of familiar characters, this is Traci 13's story of a unique voice in this world trying to make it better and find peace with her dad.The last four issues of Booster Gold, 44-47, plop Booster smack dab in the middle of this new timeline much the same as with The Flash, Barry Allen, in the Flashpoint series. They both know something is a bit...off. Booster is mistaken for an Atlantean spy by the U.S. military. The military feels the need to unleash their discovered and untested weapon, Doomsday!!! This one is just a lot of fun. Dan Jurgens loves writing his 25th century screw up, and pencils most of it, and it is a fun mad dash as Booster tries to figure out how to set things right. Kind of a confusing ending, though."The Cantebury Cricket" is collected as well. Not very interesting. All in all, a good collection to the Flashpoint saga, with excellent art all around but just a few lackluster moments to bog it down a little bit.

not what I expected
To be honest i thought the whole book was going to be revolving around superman. Yet how the title states is the flashpoint world featuring superman. As sort as his story was in the book I did enjoy it. The booster gold segment was different but it still was enjoyable as well. The other two stories were meh.... Didn't care for them that much. So it was a pretty good read.

Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint Featuring Superman
Subject 1 has been groomed for service by General Sam Lane since his rocket ship landed in Metropolis decades ago. Without the Flashpoint, the child would have been raised in Smallville, Kansas by Jonathan and Martha Kent to become a true champion of the people. But time can only warp events so much, and Kal-El and Lois Lane are still destined to be together. Booster Gold has escaped the effects of the Flashpoint while travelling through time and must fight Doomsday alone before trying to find Barry Allen to correct whatever has gone wrong. All of the stories in this collection show the twisted world that is the consequence of the Flashpoint, both through the plot and, more subtly, through the superb artwork.

My mother (God rest her soul) made the best cookies!
I recall a snowy January day spent down at the nearby creek. We kids were sliding on shovels, across the frozen ice, when my younger brother Harry fell through. Without thinking, I dove in to save Harry, and together with a small group of friends we pulled Harry to safety. He emerged unscathed, while I suffered permanent hearing loss in one ear. Later on, Harry grew up to become an air force pilot and flew bombing missions overseas in WW2. I remained at home, helping my father run our family-owned building and loan business. Over time I grew to resent the business and how my life turned out. I grew so despondent I even considered taking my own life. One night I drove to a nearby bridge and contemplated throwing myself off it, into the icy water below. Suddenly, out of nowhere, this little old man appeared, claiming to be an angel. He spoke of wanting to save my soul and getting his wings in return. Not being a God-fearing man I considered this man to be a kook! I was afraid of him. I was raised by my father to believe that those things we fear - we kill. So I pulled out a hand gun I had concealed in my overcoat and shot that man dead on the spot. Now as I while away the few remaining years of my life in federal lock-up, I think back on the great cookies my Mother made. I sure do miss those cookies. What about the book I bought from Amazon? Meh!
