Murach's ASP.Net 4.5 Web Programming with VB 2012 (Training & Reference)

This is one of the best books I have found for someone wanting to learn the basics of ASP.NET programming. Murach spends pages teaching you the fundamentals that other books would devote a sentence or two on a topic. It also seems to have a good index that helps you find what you are looking for when you need help.

This is a great book from which to learn. Step by step instructions and examples. Good index as I've had to jump ahead sometimes for help with something I'm currently working on. Personal preference would be to do the examples while I'm reading the text, but no worries, I just have to re-read some parts while doing the end of chapter exercises.

This is required for my final class for my degree. The books are well written but the subject matter is hard for me.

Fantastic reference for a beginner in Visual Basic, its helping me alot in my advanced course. The sample web site that it teaches you to build is really fun as well.

This whole book is full of redundancy. Not much useful information. I am far more productive looking through the https://msdn.microsoft.com/ pages on vb.net.

This book uses a different approach to presenting the material. The approach is pretty good but not great. Like all these books, I'd like to see something close to a real-world example of using databases. All the books seem to avoid this topic. Just a little more depth would be nice.I've been writing code for a long time -- and I always learn something new when reading these books. This was the case with this book, I definitely learned new things. Good discussions of the topics the author(s) choose to discuss.Overall, I thought this book was good but it's not an "A-Z bible" for ASP.NET w/VB (I'm not sure if any book can do that anymore - but I'm still looking). I would recommend it to colleagues as long as they understood the limitations.

This is an excellent book. Well written. Wish there is a video series that go along with this book. That would be dynamite.
