This is a handy labour saving, easy to use, teaching folder which contains postcards, background notes and classroom activities relating to the subject of Colour. The 'Ways of Looking' starter sets are designed to provoke ideas and help develop communication skills whilst encouraging visual awareness. There are 25 postcards from museums, galleries and publishers worldwide, together with teaching notes, which provide background information, and suggested lesson plans compiled by experienced teachers. The postcards are supplied in clear display pages, for flexibility and easy use with whiteboards. They illustrate, at a glance, the different ways in which painters interpret the subject of colour and have captions for each image with brief notes to aid discussion. Ideas for practical classroom activities are also included in the handy plastic ringbinder. Colour is examined in nature, mood feeling, in abstract, manufactured and blends, contrasts and harmonies. Children are encouraged to explore the basic elements in each work including mood and feeling, media, form and shape, colour, tone and line, pattern and texture, light and space and content. Artists include Bonnard, Chagall, Cione, Delaunay, De Stael, Gore, Hoyland, John, Kandinsky, Kirchner, Klee, Leger, Macke, Marc, Monet, Morris, Motherwell, Pollock, Seurat, Sickert, Turner, Van Doesburg and Van Gogh. The notes are intended to be sufficiently general for the teacher to select and adapt the ideas to match the age, ability and needs of any class from key stages 1 to 4.
