[Variation] TENUGUI - Japanese Cotton Towel 2 Pieces Set : Samurai's precept/White // [about Tenugui] It is around Kamakura era that Tenugui are said to have begun spreading in the Japanese. Since then, tenugui had been integrated into the Japanese lives as a cool fashion item like Yukata, a cotton kimono for summer. As the downtown area of Edo was covered with a lot of sandy dust, people are said to have worn tenugui as hats or scarves and competed for their fashionable patterns. The remnants of tenugui are without being hemmed, because they were cut and sold depending on the purpose. Typically, it is made of cotton, whose size is about 33inches long by 13inches wide. The ends are without being hemmed, this allows the cloth to dry much faster, not to get dusty, and protects its turned edges from dirt. These benefits made sense in humid country of Japan. In addition, when tear up to use as a bandage, it is convenient that not sewed. (The fray of their edges stops at about 0.2 or 0.3 inches.)

nice
item as described. i use them as headwraps. others have complained about unhemmed ends, but that is how a traditional tenugue is. mine have had a few stray threads, but no unexpected unraveling after weeks of daily use.

Nice artwork, but has fraying edges on delivery.
Nice artwork. A bit dissapointed to see that the left and right edges of the tenugui are rough cut, not stitched or sewn, and arrived with fraying. Top and bottom edges seem ok. I purchased these to use as Kendo Tenugui. I doubt they'll hold up unless I get the edges reinforced by a sewing machine / tailor.
