More than a novelty - amazing sound, most comfortable option for home!
While it's not a replacement for Bluetooth on the road/in the car, this is an amazing handset to use at home or in the office. It's reminding me of when I got a TiVo - whatever did I do without it.I have an iPhone, which is awkward to hold up for a long conversation, even more so than regular cell phones. Sure, I have Bluetooth, but even on the best ones the sound quality isn't great, plus I have a hard time finding one that attaches well to my ear. At home, usually it's speakerphone, which is semi-convenient for me, and even though the speakerphone on an iPhone is pretty good, it's still not great.Welcome to my life the Moshi Moshi Retro Handset. The old-fashioned telephones were built that way for a reason, like a lot of products we think of as outdated. They were built that way because they were comfortable to cradle between your head and shoulder (and since you naturally have two shoulders to do this on, most people have no problem alternating without fatigue), and because of the way they fit in your hand. And now I have the convenience of a cell phone, and the portability/features of a smart phone at home. What's great about this handset is that it's not only gorgeous and functional (not to mention the awesome box it comes in - you feel like you are opening a present, and the box is nice enough to keep for storage/moving/etc. with a velcro snap instead of cardboard you rip), but the sound quality is kind of scary. I have a land line and it makes my cell phone sound better than that, let alone better than it usually does when held up to my ear. I don't know what digital trickery they are doing, but when I saw "Noise-reducing technology for a crisp and polished sound" I thought "Yeah, sure..." but really, it sounds so crisp and clear. The only flaws you can detect are on the caller's side.Great product. Not as quirky as you think - for the price, I can definitely recommend anyone who uses their phone at home a lot to give it a try.

Best Phone Accessory Ever!
Until I purchased the Moshi Retro Handset, I wasn't really using my iPhone as a phone as much as I would have liked. I often found myself preferring my office or home phone because of the call clarity and lack of heat and radiation. Over the years I've tried various bluetooth earpieces and had most recently just settled on the iPhone headset because of the discomfort and health risks associated with using the cell phone placed directly to my ear.Well here is what I have found in the last 60 days - The Moshi is almost perfect! I can make and receive calls comfortably and the audio quality is superb. (until now, I've never used the word "superb" in a review, by the way) I have compared it directly against the other devices I used to use and it wins hands down for comfort and voice quality.I say "almost perfect", because it has one obvious drawback - its size. I work around that. It is perfect at home, in the office or in my car. When I use it walking down the street, well, I certainly get some strange looks, but I really don't care. I would not make a business call without it, because the enhanced voice quality allows me to pick up on verbal cues that I would miss on a normal cell phone call. I used to avoid cell phones for important calls, but now I have the flexibility that wireless has always promised. To sum it up, the Moshi has made my phone and my daily life more productive. I used to avoid using my cell phone with a preference to my landline phone. I haven't used my landline phone since I purchased the Moshi and it is now scheduled for disconnection. A one time cost of +/- 30 bucks has now saved me $50 per month. Not too shabby...UPDATE Jan 9, 2011 - Still love my Moshi. I take it everywhere and it has taken a beating! It has been dropped, banged up, etc. and still works flawlessly. Everyone who tries it is impressed.

Great for Long (without sweaty face/phone) Conversations
(woah, everybody who reviewed this prior to me got it through the VINE Program, I actually ordered this because I wanted it, hahaha... so sad of me)Soft Touch: this is made of the "soft touch" rubber that we're all familiar with these days (blackberry's, Microsoft/Logitech mouse, etc) It is basically a thin rubbery layer that covers the cheap plastic underneath so it doesn't have that "cheap plastic" feeling. The bad thing about this, if you owned anything with a soft touch plastic, is that after a couple of years the rubber becomes sticky and even starts to peel off (couple of my logitech mice are all covered with magic tape in those areas so it doesn't feel yucky in my hand, anyhow.) (4 Stars because Soft Touch won't last)Construction is excellent, not only that but the packaging feels like a million bucks too. If you have seen fancy "Japanese" product packaging, you know what I'm talking about. They didn't go cheap on the packaging, and all it had was the phone. Oh, the phone feels nice and sturdy (and has a good weight to it) also.Cradle?: Nope, this product does not include a cradle, Amazon doesn't sell (as of this review) the MM01 model which DOES include the cradle, and it costs 2x as much as this reviewed model, you can go to the company's website and find more info.Sound Quality: it comes out loud and clear. It actually sounds like it is amplified as I hear the "hiss" of the phone more, but at the same time I also hear the voice coming out really well, not sure how it sounds to the people on the other side but no complains or people saying "what? can you repeat that?"The Hangup Button: It's not that easy to press the button. It is actually a hard click and it is dimpled inward and recessed. It requires a strong press to "CLICK", it is harder to press than an iPhone power button or a mouse click, I'd guess 2-3x the pressure. So no worries for me (or you).Purpose: Last but not least, the purpose of this accessory. I remember a couple of years ago when this first came out people were carrying it as a novelty with them. THAT is not the purpose of this accessory. I use my cell phone as a home phone. So I plug this handset and leave it there and am able to pick up the phone and talk (better yet, I'm able to walk around unlike an old school tethered phone). Many times I talk for more than 15 min lying on my bed and this handset is the best way to talk. I'm tired of bluetooth earpieces (always seem to run out of battery during my phone calls) and the earpiece you sometimes have to hold the "mic" part so others can hear you.Bonus: it would be really funny to use this while driving, people would give you some double takes but the Police Officer who just pulled you over will enjoy a good laugh while giving you a ticket... so don't do that. =)
