Splitsville
This is a solid wood splitter but it will require being screwed into a wood stump base to optimize the stability. Thankfully the makers of this product provide screw holes on the bottom so so you can anchor this splitter into a solid base. Right away this device made quick work of logs. Splitting wood on this splitter resulted in quick beautifully sculpted kindlings that showed off the grain of the wood. Unfortunately the hammer that comes with item has a flaw; it comes with a rubber cushioning sheath that tends to slip off while you're hammering away at the logs. I started using my own mini sledge hammer for the splitting and the problem was solved. Would have given this product a four stars but because I was more interested in the wood splitter than the hammer, I personally did not feel slighted by the hammer problem.

MUST be screwed down VERY securely
Works well. But if you don’t REALLY screw it down to something thick and heavy with long screws, it will come loose. They maybe should include recommended mounting hardware or sell a heavy duty wooden bench as an accessory. It would help.

Makes you the most popular guy in the campground!
I bought this splitter earlier this summer. Usually, the wood at the campground is already split into manageable pieces, but this time, most were twice as large as the ones we bought there in the past. When the campground owner saw me struggling to split them using my small camp hatchet, he brought one of these over. I was amazed at how easily it turned whole logs into kindling sized pieces! I bought my own as soon as I returned home so I would have it with me for my next camping trip in case I encountered a similar issue. The first night on my next trip I noticed one of my neighbors struggling to split his larger sized pieces into kindling, so I lent him my splitter. He couldn't thank me enough and said he'd be sure to buy his own as soon as he returned home. I haven't mounted mine to a more solid base yet because I needed to be able to transport it in my RV, but now that I'm home I'll bolt it to a stump for more stability.

Good for light/medium use and well-seasoned wood
This splitter kit is pretty good for making smaller chunks of firewood from sections that have been seasoned and are pretty dry. At first, I thought I could use this with a larger sledgehammer to split greener wood but quickly decided against it as the larger head could make contact with the blade. I think the ideal way to use this is to bolt it in place and use the include hammer or similar sized sledge to drive the pieces against the blade safely. Due to the additional wedges lining the sides of the wedge, logs split easily and quickly once started. This can turn an 8" round into usable firewood in a matter of minutes and with reasonable effort.

Cheap materials
We will see. I think I got what I paid for. Compared to ones I have seen in the big box stores. It feels like the materials are pretty cheap.

helps split those tough logs
We used this to split some twisted Dogwood logs and it was helpful. We could use a heavy maul and swing with some force and not have to go chase down the logs after every swing. Also split smaller stuff with a smaller hammer holding the wood on the 'blade' and tap it with a hammer. Safer for me and the eager teen helping.

Works for smallish logs
Works fine for small dry logs like the kind used to smoke meat. Larger fireplace size logs…not so much.

Kindling splitter
Easy to use. When I find a suitable spot I will bolt it down so I won't keep knocking it over. Heavy duty and good quality. Works as it should.
