Covers everything
Excellent book, havnt read through yet but gives the impression that it covers everything in full academic detail- its been revised over and over since the 1940s. Interesting pictures of snow formations too! If you want to go beyond just being a tourist and actually understand the environment you are skiing / snowboarding in then this is the book.

AKA. The 'magnum opus' of avalanche books
Gives the complete avalanche story. A thorough, detailed tome that makes more sense once you've read other avalanche books. It fills in the little but important details that lesser volumes mention in passing. Critical reading for all avalanche professionals in the English-speaking world; this is the one that you have to read before embarking on hard-edged vocational avalanche qualifications. There are more accessible books on avalanches but none as complete. Definitely a book you study rather than read; a bit 'chewy' at times, so caveat emptor. Highly recommended.
