Varathane 215362 Wood Fill Stick, 3.2 oz, Natural/Golden Pecan/Spring Oak

The fillers from this wax-based Varathane "pencil" blended beautifully into screwholes that remained in the aftermath of my furniture-making project (a new writing table). Hint: If the hole you want to fill (and match to the existing varnished surface) is more than a half-inch deep and wide, consider warming it with a hairdryer to soften the wax before pressing it into place and scraping away the excess. It worked beautifully. Perhaps the illustration shows how it blended into the PINE border which I stained in RED OAK and filled with LIGHT CHERRY varathane pencil. If you don't know what color to pick, "Light Cherry" blends with almost all red-toned woods and any of the "Oak" tones will match the yellow-toned woods. Best wishes and x from Danforth

Another item I use in furniture repair and resporation. THis item matches very well old stained black cherry items. Easy to use and hides small cracks and holes extremely well.

I purchased this because of all the great reviews it got. I've tried wood markers and wood fillers in the past and in my opinion this is one the worst. I think I would have been better off using a dollar store crayon then wasting an hour trying to repair one gouge with this thing. The material used to make it, which I believe is wax, flakes off as you use it, leaving a waxy residue on the work surface. The directions suggest that to remove any of the excess wax, you should use a plastic putty knife. I'm not putting anything with the word "knife" in it to repair my table, after all I'm trying to fix it, not add more damage. I've never written a bad review on Amazon but I guess there is a first time for everything.

I needed to a quick solution to hiding light chew marks and scratches from my puppy prior to moving out of my apt. It worked!

We used the Summer Oak stain and used this to fill a few dings in the wood. This goes on super dark. Unless it lightens over time, which is highly unlikely, this does not match Summer Oak at all. Not even remotely close. The only way it would come close is if you laid down 4-5 coats of the stain (i.e. made it much darker). We did two coats of the stain.Giving it 3 stars because the actual filling process was pretty easy and it seems to be staying put really well.

Goodbye pet claw marks

This touch up stick works great. I have dark walnut trim throughout my home. Just rub it on back and forth until the scratch or void is filled then buff it off with a paper towel. Looks great every time.

I have tried 3 colors in this so far and I can not get it to match Ipswitch. They are either too dark or too light but they miss the mark for what I need. They are easy enough to use but what is the point if you can't match the color?
