so thin
I don't trust the books that are that thin, I mean really, the subject of art and you give 64 pages including glossary and index?? I know it is intended for a child but it doesn't mean you can skive the subject like that.

See my review for ideas on using this books as a stimulus for: art, painting, specific artists (see review), colours, changes
Overview -This is a lovely colourful book detailing popular well known pieces of art. It is a book which will help children understand and appreciate various pieces of art. Some of the pages are spread over both on a landscape view which adds to the uniqueness of the book.Teachers: This is a resource needed by every early years, primary and even secondary art teacher. In the early years it is a good picture book to get children talking about images and their uniqueness. It will encourage them to create their own art. In primary children could look deeper at the artwork and the artists. They could explore the types of medium. In secondary, the book can provide an overview of famous artists which can be used to inspire the students own artwork. Overall it is a great book which should be shown to every child!Themes: appreciation of others, art, painting, specific artists (see below), colours, changes, types of medium, pastels, collages etc.Artists include: Leonardo da Vinci; Michelangelo; Jan Vermeer; J.M.W. Turner; Claude Monet; Edgar Degas; Vincent Van Gogh; Edvard Munch; Pablo Picasso; Henri Matisse; Georgia O'Keeffe; Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol. The books has 32 chapters: about making art; making pictures; renaissance stars; the birth of venus; hunters in the snow; everyday scenes; fruit & flowers; perfect portraits; wandeer above the sea of fog; ophelia, moody landscapes; ballet dancers; the water lily pond; sunflowers; the circus; tiger in a tropical storm; the scream; the kiss; the large blue horses; improvisations no 26. (rowing); three musicians; the house by railroad; abstraction white rose; splatter paintings; the snail; surreal scenes; campbells soup can (tomato); pearblossom highway; glossary; using the internet; acknowledgements and index. Each page explains: the type of art; provides an internet link; the artists work in more detail; about the images/parts within the work; the dimensions of the original and types of medium and techniques used to create the original.Activity ideas:> Children could replicate the pieces of art using the same media and then maybe try using a different media to see how it changes the outcome - was the original media the best to use? why?> Children could create a fact file on their favourite author. They could use other resource such as the internet links to find out more important information.> Children could explain to each other which is their favourite images. This could lead into a debate about art and what makes a piece good to one individual compared to another.> Children could experiment with various types of medium as explained in the book - pastel, oil painting, tempera, watercolours, gouache, prints, frescos and collages.> Children could explore colour and how they change using different medium. They could create their own colour wheel of the primary and secondary colours.Add this to your basket! You will not regret it!
