Let's Learn Japanese Picture Dictionary (JUV. LANG)

Although most of us relate picture dictionaries to children, but this picture dictionary is suitable even for adults who are learning Japanese. There are about 1,500 words to be learnt on various subjects. Name of things in the classrooms, outdoors, bank, post office, jobs, space, pre-historical things, prepositions, adjectives, common verbs, numbers etc.There are a few other Japanese picture dictionaries out there. But the reason I chose this one was simply because, it was the only one I saw comes complete with romaji, Kana and kanji and also the English translation.When ever I have a few minutes to spare I just take this book out and memorize a few more words. I find it easier to remember with the help of some illustrations.

Son loved this book (10yrs)

I bought it for my daughter and she finds it useful. She has an ordinary dictionary as well but the pictures make the words easier to learn.

My son has a fascination with Japanese, and wanted to learn to speak Japanese. I knew nothing, but this book has helped teach us both.

Excellent book

I brought this from my son and I quite like it, the pictures are clear and friendly, not just covering nouns like you might expect, it also covers things like prepositions (around, into, etc...). Each work has the English (US) and Japanese (which is in romaji, latin script, and Japanese script).This book is aimed at western children and covers words which they are likely to be familiar with such as bed. It doesn't attempt to teach Japanese cultural items such as futon which the reader may be unfamiliar with.This is an American book and no attempt has been made to anglicise it so many of the English words are different to those we in the UK (and probably other countries) would use but this book is for learning Japanese not English so these words are not the important things here.I did find a few of the items to be in rather odd categories and not in the obvious place but for the most part, this is a great little picture dictionary for children learning Japanese.

It's ok but very busy! Rather alot going on on each page. I'm sure for most children they would not find this a problem, but for a special needs child it is a little confusing.
