This book is beautiful, fun to read
This book is beautiful, fun to read, and deeply special for my brother and me.It is no hyperbole to say that this is the book my brother and I have been waiting to see for most of our lives. We're the kinds of dorks that take pictures of almost every Boston Whaler that we pass (or, more often, passes us) on the water. We love running as far as we can in our 13-foot Whaler, especially up the side of the island we grew up on, marveling at the variety of Whalers on "Whaler Row," where more than a dozen dot just a few miles of shoreline.Matthew deftly navigates the fascinating and complicated history with detail, humor, and eminently approachable writing. The story weaves its way through sidebars and pages devoted to unique elements, leading to an exciting "man, what's going to come in the next pages?!" throughout reading the book.I've long had to eagerly ask my brother "Coop, what Whaler is that?" "Oh, it's a ______, rare for these reasons. Check out (design elements) that make it unique." Well, with Matthew Plunkett's book, I'm starting to be able to identify them on my own. "Coop, what's that crazy old wooden boat called a Sea Sled?" "Oh, that's the precursor to the Boston Whaler, designed by..." Again, Matthew illuminates a story we have always been hungry to know more of.And to top it all off (and clear up any conflict of interest claims), Matthew included our crazy story about sailing (actually, mostly rowing) a Boston Whaler Harpoon 5.2 sailboat from Port Townsend, WA to Ketchikan, AK in the 2016 Race to Alaska. After he interviewed us, I thought we might get a sentence or two in a sidebar. When I received my long-awaited pre-order copy, I started reading and thought "wow, this book is amazing and so well put-together; our story probably didn't make the cut." Low and behold, Matthew gave Bunny Whaler four detailed pages that made me well up with tears. My brother is the most Whaler-obsessed person I've ever met, and I'm so thankful to have caught and shared his enthusiasm. I thought going to Alaska in a small Boston Whaler would be the coolest thing I ever helped enable for him. I now know that doing something that got his name into THE singular book on the Whaler's incredible history is the craziest, coolest gift he could get.

Visceral Read ... BUT
I read Unsinkable: The History of Boston Whaler cover-to-cover- Very easy to read, it is a "page turner"- The level of detail by the author into the inner workings of Boston Whaler is astonishing- The material aspects of the book are top notch: quality paper, sharp-clear photographs, tight binding, all excellent. Now, I must confess this book was nothing like I expected.I was expecting to open this book and find all the models listed, the years each model was produced, production numbers for each model by year, list price, options offered, etc. I was expecting it to be a reference source for the collector.Maybe such a book exists and I just don't know about? If such a book doesn't exist I certainly hope someone will attempt the project. It would be an excellent companion book to Unsinkable.SAVANNAH WILL

Finally a comprehensive book on the quintessential American brand of fiberglass boats!
Having been a huge fan of Boston Whaler for pretty much my entire life, this book is just the ticket to feed my obsession. I just received this masterpiece today and although I want to take my time savoring each word, I have not been able to put it down...guess I will be reading it multiple times and this is coming from a guy who usually reads only car, boat and fishing magazines! A+ on the foreword, can totally relate to those memories. If you are a fan of Boston Whalers, you've owned one, own one now or hope to in the future, this is a must-own book! Flipping through it cover to cover, it is very comprehensive, well thought out and written and will become a family heirloom as I've passed the Boston Whaler obsession down to my next generation.

The book is no puff piece and reads a bit like a case study from the Harvard Business Review in sections, which is very much to my liking. I bought another copy for my cousin and he will enjoy it as well.I hope your book does well. For a company that has so many passionate customers, it is great to understand the context in which my 1962 and my subsequent later model BW products were built. I have been around start ups that get retooled and I have been part of management doing the retooling so the stories have interesting correlation to my own experiences.

EXCELLENT PRESENTATION OF A GREAT BOAT BUILDER
While working at a major Boston advertising agency, I was responsible for the product advertising and sales promotion of the Boston Whaler for three years during the time the company was owned by its founder Dick Fisher. This book was a wonderful trip down memory lane for me. Matthew Plunkett has done a great job of capturing the essence of the company and the iconic boat they designed and built. Whaler fans will love it. I do.

Putting the history together
I have owned and loved classic Boston Whalers for 40 years. From my first Sport 13 to my Outrage 25 they have always been my go-to boat. This book does an incredible job of telling the story of these iconic boats. It is a must-read for any Whaler lover..

We are picking up a new Montauk 170 in 3 days. It’s our 2nd Whaler. I gave this book to my husband as an anniversary gift. He loves it!!!

A good read covering an iconic product
The book does an excellent job covering the business evolution of Boston Whaler as a company. I especially liked how the timeline covered working conditions, safety, causes of financial woes throughout the years and the major players involved. However I found the insertion of hand written manufacturing notes and numerous somewhat unrelated historical articles little more than filler. I definitely feel more effort could have been placed on photos to explain the evolution of the product. Overall, Whaler buffs should love it and I also see it as a good read for anyone wishing to understand the 60 year journey of an iconic product. I am one of those Whaler aficionados who long for the simplicity and uniqueness of the earlier classic models.

Hard to put down, easy to pick up!
I placed my order and had to wait a month for the books release, happy to report the wait was worth it! I have always been a Boston Whaler fan and late this summer bought my first Boston Whaler! Winter is fast approaching and tomorrow I have to winterize and store away my Whaler, hard to do since I just recently got her. But today when my book arrived I knew it would be just what I need to get me through those winter months of separation.I sat this evening and read the first 20 pages and I loved it. This book is very well put together with nice solid feeling pages, we all know when we have a quality book in our hands and this is one of those. So grab yourself a copy and sit back and enjoy reading about the Unsinkable Legend that is Boston Whaler!

Good book
Purchased for a gift, for a Whaler collector, though does not cover all the history. But a good chunk of it.
