Lens hood for a Panasonic DMC-FZ72
I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ72 and was suffering from lens flare especially with videos. I couldn’t find a lens hood that said it was specifically for a FZ72, nor could I find what size lens is fitted to the FZ72 or where exactly I should measure the lens to determine its size. However, I did find a helpful comment on a review forum from Bob(Ma.USA) and he said he has got several FZ cameras and puts a step up ring to 67mm on the lens and then puts a 67 mm rubber Wide Angle hood for wide shots and a 67 mm “tulip” hood for normal to telephoto shots. I thought this would be worth trying and purchased the three items needed from Amazon. These were (1) a set of 49-77mm lens filter step up rings, price £5.99, (2) a Phot-R 67mm 3 stage rubber lens hood, price £2.95 and (3) a Polaroid tulip lens hood 67mm, price £4.99.I found the 55 to 58 step up ring screwed directly into the lens of the FZ72 and into this I screwed the 58 to 62 and then the 62 to 67 step up rings. So now I can fit which ever of the two hoods is most appropriate for the ambient conditions. With hindsight, I now realise I could have purchased 55mm hoods and attached these directly to the FZ72 lens and avoided the need for step up rings. How much difference there is in the effectiveness between a 55 and 67 mm hood, I don’t know. Possibly, the extra depth of the hood that results from the insertion of the 3 step up rings, might enhance the shading provided by the hood. When the lens is fully retracted, i.e. when the camera is initially switched on (wide angle) the hoods clip the corners of the image. Just a tiny bit of zoom eliminates this clipping.I admit to not having taken any photographs or videos yet with the hoods, this review was posted on the day the items arrived. I’m just very pleased to have found a method of attaching hoods to my FZ72.

Good product if used appropriately: Suitable for standard to telephoto lenses, but not wide-angle.
Does what it does well.Best for standard to moderate-telephoto lenses: say 50-100mm full-frame equivalent.Unlikely to be suitable for wide-angle lenses due to hard vignetting, even when fully collapsed, due to deep mounting ring. For long telephoto lenses, it will work, but is too short to be optimal. For 30-50mm FF equivalent, might work, might not, depending on detailed lens design: is the filter ring oversize; where is the entrance pupil ?For zoom lenses, may work at wider angles if partially collapsed.52mm hood works perfectly for me on Nikon 50mm f/1.4D [75mm FF equivalent] on Nikon D7200, with absolutely no vignetting. The rubber hood can be detached from the metal mounting ring. If you don't like that, you could superglue them together.

A bit too flimsy for everyday use...
Nicely packed and obviously a good price. But the rubber is simply too feeble, though soft and flexibility might be good in a 'knock' in protection of the lens it really isn't stiff enough. Not happy with it.The vignetting caused given the focal range specified is also not good, shadowing and visibly dark shadows at the wide angle end of my Tamron 28-200mm, with dark and visible intrusion upon the captured image (used on a Tamron 28-200mm Zoom, Canon AF fit).Would not bought it again... may suit another lens, but not mine for sure!

Unexpected issues
Purchased this product to remove reflections when taking a photograph through glass. This is largely a successful task completed. However the product is billed as a lens hood and other reviews have talked about a vignette. I have a cropped sensor and Tamron 10-24mm for which I purchased 77mm version of this product and to call it a vignette is a joke. The "lens hood" at 10mm turned my image into a circle. I therefore have to say that this is in no way a substitute for a manufactures lens hood. However if you assume that you have to push the lens to the glass, as you normally would to reduced the reflection, as this rubber hood is pushed back by the glass then the circle disappears and the normal view returns, with pretty much no reflection to be seen. The lens has to be almost touching the glass. I would therefore expect to encounter difficulty if the glass was not vertical, such as in the i360 at Brighton. The hood has three positions:- Fully out, middle and fully in. I stop seeing the hood at the following focal lengths respectively 21,16 and 10mm. When "fully in" the hood does protrude out longer than the lens, so will still form a reflection blocking seal with a glass pane.In my naïve view, I was expecting the rubber to seal to the window and give me a fair bit of manoeuvrability, but this is not the case at 10mm.

Ideal product
I bought this item for two reasons, one to help with sun light entering the lens and the second for protection against accidental knocks it is cheaper to change this hood cover rather than the lens

Does the job if you are short on space and need a one hood fits all. Doesn't provide much impact protection.
Does the job if you are short on space and need a one hood fits all (assuming you have the appropriate step up rings). I don't use it very often as I like the impact protection that a rigid lens hood gives, that this doesn't. However it does work well with regard to sun/glare protection, it's light weight and fairly compact and therefore does have it's place.

Poor Fit
Picked up new Nikon p900 yesterday and tried to fit this new camera hood. The screw ring detached from the rubber unit and took some time to go back in place. Having sorted out the initial problem I then looked at the hood in position only to find that it was mis-shaped i.e. it was not a true circle and bulged out at one point on the rim. Will not use it.

No this won't protect your lens but it's good for use with filters
Works great for when I have a vari ND on my lens making regular lens hoods useless, but with this on I can easily pull it back and screw on/adjust my filters before pulling it forwards again to cut glare . It does a good job at keeping the sun off but unlike a regular hood this does absolutely nothing to protect your lens but that should be obvious from the fact that it's collapsing. The product I have is sightly warped but I really can't complain for the price.
