Use with caution, or at least thought
My dog is a 12 y.o. rescue Australian shepherd whom I've owned for 2 years. He's had problems with recurring diarrhea, and he came with a recommendation to give him a probiotic, so I used this product for quite a while. Still, he kept having diarrhea every few weeks. Considering that, even trimmed, his rear end is pretty hairy, this isn't a fun clean-up, even when he doesn't go in the house. Because this product is so expensive, I alternated days with Vetri-Science probiotic, also bought from Amazon. I'm not a vet, but I'm a retired people doctor, and a while ago I read a research paper saying that probiotics can have the opposite effect from what's intended: they can replace a person's native intestinal bacteria, overwhelming them with just a few species that crowd out the multitudinous ones we normally have. So I tried stopping my dog's probiotics altogether. And guess what? For the past 2 months, no diarrhea! Of course, I'm still knocking on wood. Whether this will be a permanent improvement, I can't say, but I'm posting this review to give others something to think about. A probiotic may not be as helpful as you hope it to be.

Vet recommended
We have three dogs, and they love elk turds, deer turds, rabbit turds, and snarf it up like it's their last meal. Unfortunately, this leads to diarrhea on occasion (yeast in deer feces and other bacteria). We got tired of going to the vet every month for antibiotics or other drugs (and got tired of cleaning up diarrhea from the yard and cleaning the dogs' butts!). Our vet tech said to just give them a probiotic every day; however, we already were using a probiotic. We had switched from Fortiflora to something cheaper. So I guess you get what you pay for. We're back to Fortiflora, and we almost never have incidents any more.

Work but produces really bad breath
Not long after starting our adopted pooch on this we noticed she was less prone to poop that went from constipation to loose in the course of a day or 2. Her poop became regular. That said, we also started to notice she had foul breath...it took us months to make the connection between this Purina Fortiflora and her persistently bad breath. We stopped the Fortiflora about 8 days before this review and her breath now merely smells like dog breath, not exactly pleasant, but it no longer cause one to turn their head away to avoid it.We're going to do some research to see if we can get the same digestive results without the stink. Incidentally, her digestion remains good even after a week of not having the Fortiflora.Bottom line is Fortiflora works to promote better digestion at the expense of terrible breath.

Not So Great Anymore
This USED to be my go to product when the dogs had diarrhea or upset stomach and even used it on tiny pups. Most dogs seem to really LIKE the taste especially when added to water. Lately, it has not proven effective and in fact, seems to be contributing to the stomach and stool issues they are experiencing. I had to get a different probiotic from my vet to overcome the results from this one. Some breeders suggest rotating through probiotics but I am finding they either do nothing or create additional problems lately. I think the mfgs of these products need to do some genuine research on the modern canine gut, their lectin based dogs foods and come up with something that actually works effectively and consistently.

Helps with IBS and runny stools
Reccomended by my dogs veterinarian as my dog has IBS. After using the IBS, stomach sounds and jelly, bloody like stools went away. But you still have to keep sprinkling it on their food to prevent IBS from coming back. I dont use the entire packet just a small sprinkle at each feeding. My dog weighs 10 pounds so a packet can go about 3-4 days for him. There are several packets in the box. The cost is great and less than what the Vet charges. It really works and I do recommend if your pet has stomach growling and hissing sounds with IBS.

No more gassy dog
I adopted a senior with food allergies and countless other issues about 3 years ago. While the vet bills were huge, what almost made me sorry for the adoption was the gassy stink that was nonstop. Within a couple of days of using this product, that problem was gone. 1/2 packet sprinkled on food is all it takes and the dog loves thee flavor it adds.

Good price
This product was recommended by my vet. I bought it from him until I saw that I could purchase it here for a much better price. If you have a dog or dogs with sensitive tummy, this product works. I have 3 hounds & they all get it every day with their morning feeding.

Recommend by my veterinarian.
My 4 year old RedboneCoonhound/Basset has had several bouts of giardia, my vetrenarian strongly recommends that she take Fortiflora everyday to maintain gut health. She’s doing very well. No problem adding the Fortiflora to her meal, she eats it right up.
