It is too early to receive results, but I do want to point a few things out. First I choose this company because doing a search on these tests they got the highest rating. Secondly the test itself is very easy to do although I played with rubbing my dog's gums and inside cheeks for a day or so just to get her used to the feel of what I was going to do; I was sure she would try and eat it when I finally put the swab in her mouth. Now, as for the directions. Little things bother me. They say red cap, they were green. They show be putting the mailing label right on the swab box and not the brown cardboard box they mailed it in. The swab box ripped when I opened it and I had to tape it together (same with the outside box but I could put packing tape on that. So I mailed it back in the brown box. I paid for the mailing in my test kit price anyway. The labels with your ID number on them would not stick on the tube so I scotch taped them on in a manner that would not cover the barcode. I wonder if this is why many people got results that really had nothing to do with their dog. I do wish I had not uploaded the picture before I send in the test. I wonder how much that influences the results. I have completed human DNA tests that are boxed and presented in a similar manner but never had any difficulty with their products. I am hoping for very good and seemingly accurate results but they could improve their test products with small minor adjustments.

I'm editing this comment several months after my original because I was surprised to see this product back on Amazon. They had been given an Amazon "timeout," I'm guessing due to customer service issues. That's just a guess. They had been leaving very nasty, condescending comments under the negative reviews. I see they went through and changed them, probably so they don't get another "timeout." They sound much more customer service friendly now. However, continue reading....I gave my mixed breed rescue this DNA test shortly after we adopted him. We were told by the rescue organization that he was a Doberman mix, but we weren't buying it. The results came back that my dog was a Coonhound, Wheaton Terrier and Irish Wolfhound. I decided to check the accuracy of the results by doing the Mars Wisdom Health Panel. The results of Wisdom were entirely different than Find My Pet. I was so puzzled and wanted to know what my dog's breed was, so I purchased the Embark test. The results matched the Mars Wisdom test EXACTLY! My dog is an American Staffordshire Terrier, Boxer, Rottweiller mix.I reached out to Find My Pet for a refund because their results weren't even in the ballpark. I was basically told to pound sand via a convoluted email. In this email to me they also stated that Embark is more expensive and more detailed so they aren't a fair comparison to Find My Pet. Interesting statement. The Mars Wisdom test was less expensive than Find My Pet, yet Wisdom matched the Embark results completely. Not sure they should be leaning on price as an excuse for returning the wrong breed information.I'll bet if the positive reviewers did a second DNA test they would be surprised. I strongly recommend using Wisdom or Embark if you want accurate results.They also had made a sarcastic comment about what I spent on DNA tests, but they deleted it and changed the tone of their response entirely.

We adopted our dog Jake off of Petfinder in 2017. He was described as a "Shepherd Mix" on his forms. While he did look very much like a German Shepherd, he is very skinny/lanky and has floppy ears. Additionally, while a lot of his personality traits are very Shepherd-like, his ability/thirst to hunt/track and sensitivity to the noises and action of the city were quite different from how Shepherds usually are. My parents got us this DNA testing kit for my birthday and the results were INCREDIBLY eye opening. They did take about 4 weeks to come in, so be prepared to wait longer than 14 days they say. The DNA was very easy to harvest (even though Jake did not like the q-tip being rubbed in his mouth and ran away and hid when we had to harvest the second sample haha). Come to find out, he is almost 80% German Shepherd and 20% Vizsla - a breed we had never heard of! The Vizsla is a hound type dog similar to a coonhound. When we googled this breed, it became very obvious that this was the missing piece of the puzzle. The more research we've done on this breed, the less of a mystery Jake is to us. I feel so much more connected to him and his background. I love having more information about his mother and father. All in all I am INCREDIBLY satisfied with this product and so thankful that we have this information.

The percentages of what my dog is didn’t make sense much

I was very anxious to find out the breeds of my fur baby. The wait was long but worth it. Expect about 3-4 weeks of processing time, plus the time it takes for the product to arrive to their lab in the mail.I purchased Wisdom Panel as well because it does a few things differently, but it was interesting to see how similar they were to each other yet different. Where Wisdom Panel seems to give the dominant and most obvious breeds in your Pet, Find My Pet DNA is almost like something you would do for a human where it digs deep and shows breeds further down the line, giving you more of a long term history of your pets ancestry.Wisdom Panel – Lab, Cur, SheppardFind My Pet DNA – Lab, Cur, Collie, PoodleIt was a lot of fun, and would recommend purchasing this kit.
