A Wright Sheffield Made Barlow Pocket Knife.Folding blade Less Than 3"

I bought this as I'd always had a hankering for a proper, Sheffiled made, Barlow knife.This certainly fits the bill, matching the iconic desigh, and overall it is a very nice knife for the price.I read some of the other reviews that criticised the back lock for being too hard, making the knife difficult to open, and another where the blade protruded beyond the end of the knife when closed. However I can only presume these were knives that had slipped through quality control, as my knife had neither of these issues.In terms of finish the knife is perfectly good, though naturally not up there with the knives produced by custom makers of the likes of Michael May. However at this price it is hardly pitched at the same market. So whilst the purist knife collector may fine fault - for example the blade is not perfectly centered when closed, and there is a paper-thin gap at one end of the closed knife between the backlock and the scales - in reality these are hardly dealbreakers, and soon get forgotton during day-to-day usage.This is a knife that is intended to be stuffed into a pocket so that it can be there when needed, so it really just needs to be handy, reliable and sharp (and easy to sharpen). It achieves these goals admirably. On top of that, it is actually very tactile and has a nice heft to it. I haven't treated the handle to anything other than an occasional wipe with carnauba wax, which brings it up to a very nice sheen.Overall I'm very happy with it, and would certainly recommend it.

Good solid knives but very stiff to open and close must take care..

Good attention to detail, positive lock fully open. Bolsters and metalwork finely finished. Blade keeps a good edge and sharpens easily. Fine arkansas stone or fine diamond stick work well.Yes it's stiff to open but it soon eases, a little grease or oil on the pivot helps.

This is a beautiful knife..It is hand made in Sheffield using traditional methods and the attention to detail really shows through..It's not the cheapest out there but you get what you pay for...Really sharp, no need to sharpen..This knife could last a lifetime..It would have been nice to come in a case or box as this was a gift for someone..

The knife looks and feels okay but I felt did not justify the premium price. But the real problem with the knife is it is too difficult to open, despite cleaning out all the debris left in the hinge. Planning to return it.

This is the second one of these knives i,ve purchased,first was for a gift,and this one is for me.The first knife was okay if a little rough around the edges but the second one is a completely different knife altogether,the fit and finish is aboslutely spot on,no gaps where wood joins metal,blade centering is prefect and all polished to prefection.This knife is finished as well as knives costing double so worth every penny,The old chestnut about sheffield knives been poorly finished as been well and truely laid to rest on this knife,although its still got the back spring off a bear trap to keep the blade open/closed so mind the fingers.Working sharp out of the packaging(no fancy box just a jiffy bag ,so ecofriendly i guess)but it quickly stropped up to hair popping sharp.All in all a knife that will last a lifetime if maintained c75 carbon steel blade needs a fine coat of oil to combat rust and lubricate the bear trap back spring,so full credit to Arthur Wright for creating a wonderful piece of Sheffield heritage.

This is very poor quality and all the blade does is corrode- I am a farmer nd use it every day! Can u send a better quality one in return?

I always like to carry a small pocket knife and this one is an excellent example.The blade came sharp and the build quality makes for a tough knife.Not overly easy to open or close, but I wouldn't want it to be since it's non-locking. Over time it will ease up anyway.There were a few areas of tear-out on the wooden handle that I had to sand down to get smooth and level, hence 4 stars, but other than that, a pretty decent Sheffield made pocket knife that will last for decades of use.For reference I finished the wood with diluted shellac, then a beeswax buff to polish it off. Much better!I recommend this knife.
