Best AC unit ever
I bought 8300 btu unit. I wanted the 12200 btu unit but it would have taken over a month to get it. I got the 8300 in 4 days. I was surprised how well this unit preforms and most surprising was how quiet it runs. You have to double check it’s turned on, it is so silent. Also install took me about 40 minutes by my self. I’ve had ever other kind of Air conditioner in the past. Traditional window units ,rollaround units. By far, this is the best unit on the market. Installation is a breeze, and also the unit puts no stress on your window or its frame unlike traditional units. Rollaround units are way more expensive and are loud and don’t cool the space down well at all because it’s like having a space heater in your house that’s blowing out cold air, counterproductive. This unit puts the hot elements outside and the cold elements inside which makes it super efficient quiet and worth every penny. I plan on getting the 12,200 unit sometime before next summer when it’s more readily available, the only note I would give to GE electric is please develop something similar to this for a casing windows , side closing windows.

Updated: blows mildew smell; never connects to the WiFi
The media could not be loaded. Update again: he filter light and Wi-Fi light continue to flash. Two days ago, my husband cleaned the filter and drained every last drop of water out of the air conditioner. It is still flashing and blows air that smells of mildew. It is disgusting. We are going to Lowe’s tomorrow to buy a replacement of a completely different brand. I plan on smashing this with a sledgehammer when we return home. This update should have been written last summer, but it is worse now, so I will give the history. As others have stated, the lowest temp you can select is 64. That does not mean the you will get your bedroom within 5 degrees of this requested temperature. High/Cool is actually nothing more than a fan. The compressor does not kick on. To get the compressor I turn on, you have to change the setting from Cool to Dry. Now you are removing the humidity, but it was spring and not even humid. I just wanted cold air! When you switch the Cool mode to Dry, and leave the fan speed on high - not touching it…it automatically goes into a low fan speed but the instrument panel still says it is high speed. At first it would turn off by itself in the middle of the night and you would wake up in a puddle of sweat and the air being very muggy. You get up, turn it back on, but the room never cools off.Setting up a service call was so hard to figure out. You are directed to go into the GE website and request service. There was only 1 place on the website in our area. We live right between DC and Richmond, but there was only 1 service company???!!!! I scheduled the appointment and received confirmation but it was still 2 weeks out. The guy never showed! When I went back to the website to see if I had put the wrong date on my calendar, there was a final statement input by THE SERVICE COMPANY that never showed up saying “appointment cancelled by customer “. WTH?!!!!!! At that point, my warranty literally had expired 2 days prior. I can’t stand this thing. I want to beat it into a million pieces with a sledge hammer, pack it up and send it to GE HQ. I still am receiving emails that my warranty has expired and to take out a service plan. Good luck getting someone out to even look at it.Decided to conserve energy at night. There is no reason to have the heat pump run all night to cool the house to 68 degrees for sleeping. This unit is quiet, has an eco setting so the compressor will kick on and off. My Great Pyrenees wants to sleep in our room now that it is a lot colder! I am so happy that the temperature is more regulated too - no hot spots!

So far I can see many benefits of this AC over other ACs.
Easy install that doesn't damage your house, fairly well sealed and insulated, Quiet operation. A winning design. I just hope it last. Update: the economy mode will eventually shut down the ac when it cools off the room enough, the ac does not turn back on when the room gets warm again because inside the ac is cool and the fan is shut off making the room too warm before the ac begins cooling again. So I am lowering the rating to 4 stars. Update thing is difficult to restart once it shuts down. So I am lowering it to one star. Update: running it on cool instead of economy mode seems to fix the problem so I am going to rate it 4 stars. Also the installation package could be better so there is a better seal although it is better than most window AC. UPDATE: after 10 days of running it the filter light came on, I cleaned all the filters which had little to nothing on them and now I cannot get the filter warning light to go off. UPDATE: just touch the filter light to get it to go off, don't touch and hold that does something else.

The best window air conditioner I've ever purchased
Love how quiet it is, and how low in the window it is.I'm writing to this to let people know of a modification they can make to it. With a philips head screwdriver you can remove the rear cover, feed the flexible condensate eject tube through the slots in that cover, and replace the cover. You have routed the tubing out of the enclosure so the condensate is ejected externally. Now place that tube into a larger PVC drain and have the water run out away from the house. No more algae and rust, and especially useful if you are placing the unit where a porch is underneath it, like me. Keeps it dry.
