The Office - The Complete Second Series [2001] [DVD]

And then there was Swindon
So David didn't become area manager. Neil got that job, and now David's running the Slough branch, with the remnants of the Swindon branch in his office as well. And boy, do they not like him.If anything, he's more ignorant, racist, homophobic and repulsive than he was in series 1, mostly because he's got a whole new group of people to show off to. We never get underneath the skin of the new staff the way we did with the original Slough mob, but you can tell by the looks on their faces and the disbelief in their voices (particularly the Welsh girl) that they cannot believe they have lost Neil (a genuinely nice bloke) and gained David (a complete tosspot). Highlights of this series are the Comic Relief MC Hammer dance, of course, David assuming the role of expert consultant as he teaches an evening class how to express themselves better, his dressing-down by Jennifer and Neil after telling the Royal Family joke, and his interview with Keith about the way he's filled in (or not filled in) his assessment form. The rest of the Slough team are still there of course - Nice-Guy Tim, Army-nerd Gareth, beautiful Dawn and spiteful sales rep Finchy. Stephen Merchant, Ricky Gervais's co-writer, also gets a part as Gareth's gormless mate Oggy.Everybody knows now what happens in the final episode. This must be a first. The most obnoxious, repulsive, arrogant, ignorant, stupid person in the world has us all feeling sorry for him, just because he has been sacked from a job that he was completely incompetent at anyway. Roll on the Christmas special...

Simply the Best!
I'm a new fan of the Office, about 9 years too late i know. Watched Series 1 after owning it for years and never bothering, and i was hooked. So i bought this and the Christmas specials soon after. I dont know which is my favourite series to be honest. I love things from both. One of the highlights in this series is Red Nose Day. David Brent doesnt need an excuse to make an ass of himself really, but he tries even harder to be funny on RND, with not so good results.Another highlight is David giving his inspirational speech to young people. As soon as he gets asked to do this you know he'll make an idiot of himself and once again you will be cringing for him and he doesnt fail! He cant do things without trying to be dramatic or funny, he has to add his own make of eccentricity. And he's dealing with his jealousy to new boss Neil. He's better looking and more popular and poor David struggles to deal with him.One of the best characters that doesnt get enough screen time in my eyes is Big Keith! He's kind of a supporitng character, but he's so funny, him and his scotch eggs.I advise people to watch the first series before this one, then you will be able to understand more of what goes on.

Why no Office repeats on BBC?
Seeing this again it seems odd that the Beeb don’t run it out more, if at all (another Dad’s Army repeat, anyone?). I’d forgotten Tim’s relationship with the gorgeous Rachel, instead of the miserable Dawn. Loved the bit at the end where he takes Dawn into a side office, then removes his mic so we can’t hear them – then clips it back in and gives us the answer (no spoiler!).There are mysteries, such as why anyone would want to employ Brent as a motivational speaker, or write up articles on him, but of course it gives plenty of laughs, even at the cringe level.I don’t think I could add anything that hasn't been said on these reviews.

Bought for watching occasionally.
Find it funny in small doses. Purchased the whole series because I hear that political correctness might lead to some editing. I also buy the occasional film for the same reason. One of my favourite films has had a certain word dubbed. Thank goodness I have the original. History cannot be airbrushed. If it is, it will lead to the same mistakes being made.

Beautifully crafted comedy 👌
The characterisations are scarily realistic and all the more discomfiting for that....Great entertainment 👌....

Best thing to come out of british comedy in the last century
The Office is a truly amazing piece of art, and I do mean "art". Within seconds of watching the first scene you immediately cringe at David Brent's series 2 debut. The Office doesn't use direct comedy to make people laugh it uses something on a much higher level than that. That is why its in a league of its own! If you thought that Brent was funny in the first series you haven't seen nothing yet. Series 2 is as funny as series 1, if not funnier, and anyone who says otherwise is crazy! When a scene starts you just know it's gonna be a classic moment. The extras are very good aswell. Just to watch Gervais crack up is just as funny to watch. If there is one reason to buy The Office: Series 2 it would simply be to see Ricky Gervais done his legendary dance. It will truly go down in The Office's funniest moment

A transformation of in situ comedy to TV from the workplace and filmed in Slough! Hilarious.
Ricky Gervais et al - so many great scenes and a comedy which is in its own right.
