Excellent case
Great case. A little pricey but you do get what you pay for. Filled her up with 8 x 2TB SSDs. Temperatues are acceptable with SSD's but might creep up quite high when using normal hard drives and even more so when using 7200rpm drives.Quite tight in the case with not a lot of room, so you will need to use a low profile cpu heatsink and a fully modular psu is probably advisable.

Feels slightly cheap, but does the trick
I bought this case to build a compact NAS out of 2.5” SSDs. I’ve been building PCs for years and I’ve used everything from high end cases down to budget junk, PCs pulled from skips and branded systems like Dells. This case is quite expensive, but my impression is that the build quality doesn’t reflect that. The front door is meaty aluminium but round the back of the case, the metal is thin, quite bendy, and has some sharp edges. The PCI slot blanking plates feel very cheap. The cheapness also shows in the 2.5” drive caddies which are not in the same league as actual server caddies I’ve used over the years. These are flimsy in comparison, a mixture of metal and plastic, but they do the job fine. The drive cage also has a slightly cheap feel - the drives don’t seem to feel like they’re in properly. The cage isn’t subdivided, so if you remove all 8 caddies you would find it very difficult to insert just number 4 on its own. I recommend removing them one at a time, or inserting them sequentially so you’ve always got something to keep you aligned. Some reviews have said the clearance between the PSU and the SATA backplane to be too small to work with. I bought a Silverstone SST-ST30SF SFX PSU (non modular) and I didn’t have any problems with clearance. I wouldn’t have wanted it to be any tighter, but there was enough room to connect the SATA ports with 90° SATA cables. This is an ITX case so space is quite tight, but it is adequate. I’m using a low profile passive CPU cooler and relying on the airflow from the twin 80mm fans at the front to keep it cool. With all 9 drives connected it can quite easily become a rats nest of SATA cables so I recommend buying Silverstone’s own CP11 slimline SATA cables. They’re short, thin and have low profile connectors. They are expensive though.Externally, this case looks smart. The front door is understated and the top/sides are standard powder coated black steel. It’s a bit smaller than an HP ProLiant MicroServer and much lighter. My summary is that this is quite an expensive item. It works well but the quality doesn’t seem to reflect the price. However, there are so few cases with 8 external hot swap drive bays that you don’t really have a lot of choice. It will do fine for a home NAS.

Well Made strong enclosure
A heavy duty NAS enclosure to hold a ITX motherboard, Easy to mount Drives either HDD or SSD, total of 8 drives in all. Motherboard choice to accommodate all the drives is challenging. I installed a Min Esata card holding an extra 2 sata connectors but was an expensive addon solution to the motherboard I already owned (as in £30 ish ouch). Better to pay more for the ITX mobo first time around and use the Mini Esata slot for something else (memory/wifi et al). Enclosure is heavy industrial grade safe to have in high risk physical location, well made, with good assembly instructions -if you need them- Comes with all the screws and bolts you could ever wish for.

Main drive bay not cooled!
This review is for the CS280 8 bay 2.5in case. This is a really nice case, well built and looks smart, however, it is let down by a huge flaw in its design: there is little airflow over the drives, which means they will run very hot - not good for any electronics, let alone drives...Two fans at the front bottom draw air into the chassis over the motherboard and then out the sides. Airflow upwards into the drive bays is blocked by the 9th internal drive bay.I did look to see if it were possible to retro fit some small fans to force air into the drive bay but when the case is fully populated with PSU/Mobo/cables etc, there would be very little space available.I ended up returning it for this reason. If Silverstone were to revise the design to properly cool the drives, I wouldn't hesitate in buying.

Great case. Not for everyone.
Nice looking but limited use case. I use it for a home nas and have it in the living room. Happy with purchase but would suggest to anyone looking at it to make sure they are happy with the drawbacks.

Excellent Case though follow Silverstones Guidance on clearances.
I have been running my DS380 for 5 years 24/7 and had no issues with it over heating or being noisy. When I purchased it it was the only case that allowed me to create a monster NAS, 8 3.5" HDD swappable RAID drives and 4 2.5" HDD for local PC usage and OS. Its only now that my motherboard has given up and I am replacing that now after good service. I run Windows 10 (I know not the best for a NAS but it suited my needs better than Linux etc.) on a 1TB 2.5" HDD and use the 3 other 2.5" for local PC storage and apps. The installation is fiddly but not hard as long as you follow the steps laid out in the manual. I did have to cut a very small, approx. 1/2", slit on the backplane of the 8 bay housing for my Supermicro Raid card, but that was no issue, in fact if you can make do with 7 drives then there is no need to do the cut. I used an Asrock mini-itx motherboard and Intel CPU both have been fine in this case until this last week when the MoBo died. Cooling was done by Silverstone's Tundra 3 (now a legacy product but I believe still available or updated) water cooler and the radiator fitted to the rear of the case with its extraction fan housing in place. This, I admit, was tight due to the stiffness of the radiator hoses but once in place no problem at all. Additionally the 16GB Ram was 2x8GB LOW Profile XMP units. Power supply was the now unavailable Silverstone SFX 600G which I am replacing with the newer SFX 650G to cope with a new CPU and MoBo.In conclusion I can honestly say I have tested this case for 5 YEARS, tucked away in the corner of my room in a small 3 sided enclosed wood cabinet/table with no extra care taken other than cleaning the external filter meshs once a year, these cover the cases fans and connect magnetically for easy removal/replacement, and it has and still is serving me well. I have still not found a case that can accommodate the number of drives with such a small footprint and at the price this case is.

Well intended ....but badly executed....
Had to return this case, cause unfortunately it didn't do the trick.1. The case is too short in depth... the drive cages come too close to the back of the case....5-10 cm's more would have made a huge difference, not only to make it all easier to fit things...but to allow for more air to flow within the case.2. The drive cages and the cpu cooler... beware of the limited room between the drive cage and the cpu.... you can use an AIO or a low profile cooler, but that's it... check it before buying.3. The hot-swap able drive bays....great idea...poorly executed....drives are literally on top of each other with NO room for airflow/cooling. I had all of the bays filled (8 drives) for my NAS.....temps went up to 60+°C !!!! Yes.... much too high.... opening the side panels, adding fans on the sides, using AIO... nothing helped...I considered this the biggest design flaw...having no room between the drives to cool them.I have replaced this case with the node 804... look at that design, separate compartments for drives versus motherboard.... room between the drives in each drive cage.... room for adding plenty of fans to cool the case ...Well, i've found my case....I'd say: stay away from this Silverstone case... it's waaaay too expensive for what it offers.
