The only logical choice in Spar Varnish
My primary use of varnish is over epoxy-sealed teak on a vintage sailboat. The problem with typical "Spar Varnish", even under ideal conditions, it takes an entire day (in a practical sense) to dry. This means, assuming good weather, it could take you a week or more of *daily attention* to get down enough coats for an exterior application. In my experience, typical spar varnishes applied outdoors in any season except mid-summer, need to be applied in the morning, so they have time to set up before temperatures drop in the evening. This is a major hassle that means your varnish will rule your life for many days. Your soft varnish will also be exposed to bugs, dust, bird droppings, etc. during this time unless you are lucky enough to be working indoors.Gleam 2.0 is very different than typical spar varnish - It dries in one hour, self-levels quickly, and you can put down three coats easily in a single morning OR afternoon. It really does dry in an hour at 70F, and even faster when it warms up. However, it doesn't go off so fast that it's hard to work with.If you read the application data for this varnish, you will realize you can get far more coats on, far faster, with far less work between coats than a typical Spar Varnish. The cost difference between this vanish and a less expensive typical varnish is easily worth it if your time is worth anything at all. I would choose Gleam 2.0 even if it were 4x the cost of a typical Spar Varnish.I'll never buy another kind of varnish.
