You Were the First

My first born had been wanting a sibling for years! When I was finally pregnant he got cold feet and started to get upset about being left out and not getting any attention. I bought this to help, what a lovely story, it helped with preparation and reassuring our son that he was just as important as his new brother and how it was him that made us parents. He loved it - he is 6, his brother is 3 months old now and they are inseparable. He never feels left out or any resentment. This book gave us lots of ideas, talking points and allowed my eldest to talk about his feelings. Well worth buying if you have a young child who is apprehensive of having a new baby in the family. It has such a wonderful message about the first born child, makes them feel so loved and important. It definitely did the trick.

Bought this to read to my son, my first born, not long after my second born joined our lives just so that he can be reminded about how special he is to us and that he was the first to show us what true unconditional love is. My son who is only 4, smiles when I read it to him.

Lovely book for a younger child. When reading the info and reviews I thought this might be ok for my 7 year old but it was a bit young. He still appreciated the sentiment though!

Lovely book, beautiful illustrations and great to help a toddler understand that they are still so very important when a sibling arrives. Perfect bedtime reading, to go to sleep on good thoughts.

I bought this as a present for my little boy a couple of months before the arrival of his little brother. He enjoyed the story, I think it helped him to see that he was just as loved, and every bit as precious as the baby. I then passed it on to a friend’s son at her baby shower and she said she was especially touched by this thoughtful gift as it helped him to feel included in the celebrations.

Beautifully written and very emotional, I bought this for my daughter when I was pregnant with my second and every time I read it there were tears! Lovely story and after my son was born my daughter said “I was the firstborn” really gave an understanding and eased the idea she wouldn’t be the only one anymore.

Lovely images, nice words. However it's abit boring for my 4 year old. (A big brother to be). Just think it's abit naff. But is a lovely book. Would (personally) recommend for 2/3 year old.

Such a lovely book! Bought to help my toddler who’s about to become a big brother in 4 weeks. I cried when I read it to him, maybe the pregnancy hormones but a lovely emotional message and to read to your firstborn child. He loves it, read on repeat since it arrived!
