3 stars for me (Kindle Version)
Usually my ebooks are entertainment reading as opposed to instructional or informational reading, so with this in mind I rated this book 3 stars. While this book follows the usual format for "Dummies" books, written with lots of humor as well as information, I had trouble with skipping through to sections I wanted the information on. I am no doubt the one at fault here because trying to skip through to the parts I wanted was problematic for me. I just couldn't seem to manage "hopping" around in the ebook for what I was looking for at the time. In fact I probably should give the 3 stars to myself for being somewhat inept. As a straight read-through it was fine. From now on I will be buying my information books in the traditional format, holding it in my hands and being able to flip back and forth to information I want.

Mostly For the Photo Novice
For people with limited knowledge of photography (first digital camera?) this book may be OK. If you don't really know the difference between shooting JPEG or RAW, aren't clear on what ISO is, don't grasp the relationship between shutter speed and aperture on exposure, and don't understand the basics of photo composition, this book is actually well written. Otherwise, you'll need to sort through a lot of stuff you either learned in Photography 101, or already knew. Not to mention, this book tries to kill two birds with one stone, by including both the V1 and J1, which means unless you own both cameras, an additional bit of extraneous material. The author writes well and clearly, but unless you need the photo basics, this camera really isn't that tough to learn. A short read through the manufacturer's manual and flicking through the various menu settings, you can probably be up and running with still photography pretty quickly. I don't use my V1 for video, so I won't comment on whether or not the section on video was useful. Again, depends on what your needs are.

Perfect!
Well organized, contains accurate, concise and clear information and has DRAMATICALLY improved the "tricks" that I now use with my V1 and J1. In particular, I have attempted to push the V1 to match the functionality of my D7000 to the extent that it is possible; this book has given me clear indications of what is and is not possible and the implementation of some features that are simply not adequately described by Nikon in the user manual.

MUST HAVE ACCESSORY
This is a well written, comprehensive guide for getting the most out of your Nikon 1 J1/V1 (I have both). It is presented in a clear, logical sequence and provides valuable tips for getting the most out of your camera. It may be titled for "DUMMIES", but at no time does it talk down to its' reader. You certainly are NOT a "DUMMIE" if you pick up this title.

Detailed yet easy to read
Even though the Nikon V1 is fairly easy to use right out of the box do yourself a favor and get this. It has a lot of useful information that easy to read, understand and best yet find. I got the Kindle edition so I can also use it as a field guide of sorts on my iPhone using the Kindle app. Highly recommend.

Useful and entertaining
Like all Dummies books, info is broken down into simple problem solving topics with a heavy dose of humor to keep technical things light. It goes along way in opening our minds to new info!

quite good
Even for a non beginner the book has some useful tips : long live the dummy books. I am on my 18th or 19th digital camera seeking something as good as a 35mm film camera and my search continues.
