The CZUR Fancy S 12MP document scanner is the smaller counterpart to the CZUR Shine 1400A3S Pro and other desktop scanners. Despite being the 'little brother,' it does not compromise on quality. When I first opened the package, I was surprised by its compact size and doubted its capabilities. However, I was proven very wrong. This scanner is perfect for travel with a laptop, weighing just a few pounds. It automatically powers on when connected to a computer, ready to be used as a webcam or for scanning documents on the go. With a 12MP camera and three light settings, it delivers impressive results. I compared the scans of the same document using both the CZUR Shine Pro and the CZUR Fancy S Pro 12MP USB Document Camera, and the results were very close. It also offers an auto-scan feature, making it a great addition for anyone needing a compact scanner, especially for researchers who frequently travel to libraries or courthouses. As a genealogist, this is the perfect travel companion for family reunions, libraries, or courthouses with limited space. Since it draws power from the laptop, there's no need for extension cords, reducing the risk of tripping. I received the device, unboxed it and was pleasantly surprised by the small size and how small it folds up. It comes in a protective foam case that is small enough to fit in my backpack, which is great for when I travel. It was easy to get started. Basically, you just take it out of the box and plug it into your computer. The plug and play to use the device as a camera works seamlessly. The most complicated features on the device are the buttons on the top. I had to get out the manual to know what each one does. I am still not sure I am 100% on these but I feel that if you use it consistently, it will become second nature. Once I got the device connected, I first opened Zoom, which automatically chose the device as my camera. This did not work so great when I had it aimed at a paper on my desk, however, when I turned it to record me, it worked well. I could use this as an additional camera on myself for video conferencing, especially if using my laptop and want more control of what the camera shows. The device is adjustable in many ways, allowing the user to get the image they want. I then downloaded the Czur Visualizer software for the device. This was easy to do and simple to learn. I have the Aura Pro, and the software for that took me a little bit longer to figure out but there are also more features. The software for this device is simple. There is a display, scan, and file tabs. From the display I was able to record a video of myself writing on a piece of paper and pointing to things on a document. I think this feature will be useful for recording videos for my online students especially when I want to share something physical on my desk. The scan feature works pretty well. It takes jpgs of the image in the camera. The quality is not nearly as good as the images taken with my Aura Pro, but I don’t feel this is the main goal of this device. I was hoping I could use this device in the archives to scan documents, but I think I will stick with my Aura Pro for that simply due to the quality. However, this device will work well if I need a quick image or a camera to capture moving images. Overall, I think this is a quality device at a good price. The flexibility of the device makes it ideal for giving the user more control over what is in the image. I am happy with this purchase.
