So, this thing is TOTALLY EXELLENT! They have re-designed it with a much stronger (thicker walled pipe) handle tube that is made of strong steel, and screws together like gas piping. It also easily screws into the tamping base plate. No more bolt type attachment... so much easier and more secure! It screws on tight and makes a nice complete unit. I'm using mine to tamp down leaves, I have raked up, it makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE and I can fit like 9x times leaves into a bag, using this tamper. I then wheel the bag away with a hand truck. Easy! The HEX DESIGN works well, as it does not cut the sides bag, as using a standard square construction tamper has a tendency of doing... BIG PLUS! It is also a bit lighter, but not too light. Gets the job done. A joy to use. If you are using the new Dust Bin Leaf Bags, this thing is a MUST HAVE. Many uses around the house - oh yeah, it works great on the garbage too. LOL. Nice price. I bought 2, one for the garage and one for the house.Compact as you go is the best results. This mimics a trash compactor and it is more efficient. It also doesn't require as much effort as it will if you compact only once.I've been using them for a couple of months. Works great!Be sure to keep caps off of containers so you're not pounding the compressed air in the bottles or jugs. (This may be a reason for people reporting breakage.) I can detect when someone tossed a empty bottle with the cap on. It's got a strong kickback hitting the compressed air.It's ideal for most garbage. Not good for cardboard boxes.

The Trash tramp lasted 2 and 1/2 months, and the handle broke in two. I tried contacting the seller, but I found it impossible to contact them. Amazon listed that it warranted the device for 30 days. The unit works, but the handle is hollow. I ended up going to Lowes and buying one for $10 less. The Lowes brand feels a lot studier. I think I should get more than a couple of months of service considering I only use it at most once a week.

This trash tamper looked like what we needed. It was comfortable to use and the handle grip did not slip. However, the shaft broke after approximately 30 minutes of use. Perhaps we are too strong for it! Returned for a refund and will find something with a solid rather than tubular shaft to replace it.
