Easy read...layed out well for amateurs!

The author used mortise and tenion styled doors for most of his door designs because they make the strongest & durable doors. Because of this proclivity, some of the material may seem a bit redundant. Also, thIs joinery style is probably not for beginers. And even if I never make a door, I really enjoyed reading the book.

Really good intro to the subject and recommended for those interested beginners looking to start on this seemingly complex and challenging task. Author has an informal writing style that adds a bit to the technical nature. The pictures are fresh and helpful as well.

This book brings under one cover what you can read about making doors in a host of other available books on the subject but the difference is this book has everything you need in one place. It's a comprehensive resource guide for the person who probably brings some woodworking experience to the table but has never actually made a full-size door. Some harmless wise-guy comments spice things up in the text. I'm doubtful any snowflakes will either notice, understand or appreciate the humor but I did and it makes what is kind of like a textbook more enjoyable to read. You can't go wrong buying this book.

This book annoyed me. Perhaps I’m unique, but I was/am looking to build an exterior wood door (and exterior doors come with a number of challenges). The detailed example in this book for an exterior door is for a copper cladded exterior. Personally, I’ve never seen a residential copper cladded door. My sense is that the author/publisher is trying to avoid blowback associated with exterior wood doors that have gone awry—a significant risk, which is why I purchased this book.

Lots of solid information that can be used in making just about everything wood.

Product provided a general understanding of door construction. It was sufficient but not detailed enough.

This book carefully and realistically details how to make wooden doors of all types. It is an excellent resource and very well written. An essential guide for woodworkers!

Easy to follow learning experience. I always like to learn new things, but I don’t always like to be taught.

I chose to rate it based on it's prose. "If we lived in a Soviet paradise, this chapter would be short" is the type of garbage sentences you'll come across while reading. If you're a "freedom lovin", unreflective American, or fan of cable news, you'll love this book, otherwise Purdy's insertion of ad hominem commentary just gets in the way of communicating skills and knowledge. IDK... maybe he thinks he's being funny, or maybe he just holds a low opinion of people who would buy his book. What I do know is that while Purdy may know something about doors, he knows little about the doors into the lives of others. I regret not just spending a little more time and effort to do internet. Unsurprisingly, the publisher had their building blotted out on Google maps. Isnt paranoia the opposite of freedom?
