Q: Dogs have dichromatic vision (see only blue & yellow), how do these work?

While they “see” only blue and yellow, they can also distinguish the various shade of grays the other colors are to them. Combined with placing the colored and gray shades of the buttons onto the colored and differing gray shades of the mats my dog does well at remembering which button is on which hexagon mat. My Aussie does great with these. Also I never place a similar colored button on the same color hexagon to avoid the shades blending too much.

Q: Can a 7 pound dog press the buttons?

Yes my dog is a small terror who had no trouble, however once she learned how she became a nuisance and I had to pick them all up. Now I only have "outside" down for her and she rings that when she wants the door open. Hope you have better luck. My dog is smart but I never got her to the "communication" stage, more like button abuse.
