I bought this unit along with the 3.5 - 5.25 front panel convertor tray. It's a simple box with the facia with various inputs and at the rear is a single cable terminated with a 9 pin USB connector plug. The cable is off a decent length which enables the directing of the cable well out of the way of other components and keeps things neat and tidy. The 9 pin plug is the only connection required and easily connects to a spare USB header on the motherboard. Installation was easy and the supplied fixing screws ensure the unit is firmly secured to the convertor tray (which comes with it's own chassis screws). On powering up, the green power indicator light on the units front panel was illuminated as was the activity light when a storage device was plugged in. Files were opened with minimal delay. If you are looking for a card reader/writer with the added bonus of an additional USB socket, then for the money, I can highly recommend this product. I bought this unit after having bought a similar product which failed to operate and is currently being returned. I wish I had gone with this one from the start. Not a single glitch with installation or functionality. No driver installation required either.

Don't spent stupid amounts offered by Ebay sellers for "compatible" devices. Upgrade your VS880/840EX with this for a fraction of the cost. Works like a charm. You'll need to get a longer 44 pin IDE cable as the one in the Roland is tiny to connect to the ZIP drive, but, yes, superb option

So far it's running just fine. It was simple enough to install and the drivers were automatically installed by Windows 7.Relatively well made for an inexpensive reader and it comes with enough cable to reach the USB sockets on the mother board.Tried it with SD and compact flash cards and though the CF cards are put in upside down they all read and write with no errors.The USB 2 socket is handy and works fast enough even though it's not USB 3.It's nice to no longer have trailing cables across the PC and desk for external card readers.

Easy to set up (just connects to a USB 2 header), fits into a 3.5" bay/front panel, drivers install automatically.Although there are six slots, you can only use four cards at a time. Four drives will appear in 'My Computer' and they are as follows:- Compact Flash (CFI/CFII cards)- x-Picture (XD cards and similar)- SD (includes SDHC, micro SD, etc.)- MS (includes M2, MS Pro Duo, etc.)Note that the SD and Micro SD slots can't be used at the same time. Whichever card is entered first will be picked up by the SD drive, the other won't be recognised (until you remove the first). The same goes for the MS and M2 slots.When you first install it and the drives appear, they probably won't state which is which. On Windows 7 (and possibly other Windows operating systems) you can figure this out by inserting cards or by going into Disk Management (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management then select Disk Management from the left window) and scrolling down the bottom window, right clicking on each drive and selecting properties. The type of card each drive reads will display in the title bar of the window that appears.The USB 2 port works fine as well. And the lights aren't too bright.I would recommend this, especially as there are inferior card readers out there which have malfunctioning USB ports etc. This one is no trouble to set up and does what it's supposed to.For reference: my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Does what it says. Startech say it "Supports any operating system" and indeed it works as it's supposed to on a PC dual booting both Windows 10 Pro 32bit and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64bit. I have it connected to the header port of a Sonnet Technologies FW8USB3 A USB 3.0 PCI Express Card Fire Wire 800) fitted to the PC.I chose this after looking at the CSL offering but that product had USB2 speeds for the card reader. By contrast, this Startech product is entirely USB3 which means that the full speed of some faster flash cards can be fully taken advantage of.

Brilliant little card reader. All I wanted was a straightforward multicard reader. So many bundle USB 3.0 and the kitchen sink so you end up with a bunch of cables to connect. This just has a single USB header cable. Perfect, workd like dream. Can recommend 100%.Easy install, well made, simple.

Like the product and good tech support but I found it only work properly with 1 out of 6 carts, did not like sandisk cf carts.

First and foremost, you can't go wrong with StarTech's products. They do amazing work and produce quality peripherals.I use SD cards all the time for photography and need a dedicated port on my PC for them. In the process of building a new PC, I realize no new (good) cases really come with an SD slot and if they do they are sketchy at best, so I needed something like this to add to a case that had expansion bays. With a 5.25" adapter from the same company, I was able to get this installed and working easily.The black color is great as it matches most modern cases. Since StarTech is based in North America, the experience of actually using this device is well thought out for a western mindset. The text labels makes sense, the design is intuitive, and—again—the quality is impeccable.Love that this supports the new UHS pins for next-gen SD cards on the left slot. I don't have any or devices that support them, but I bet I will someday and be happy not to have to get a different reader/adapter or settle for slower transfers. Because of the UHS SD slot, this technically has 2 full-size SD card slots which is super nice for transferring data between them or just pulling files from both simultaneously. The Micro SD slot is wonderful too (no adapters needed) and I appreciate the support for legacy CF and MS cards (though... TBH, I don't plan on ever using them). I really didn't need an additional USB port on the front, but I can see it being handy for many users.Lots of cheap imported media card readers seem like they use old technology and the fact that this is only one of a handful to use full USB 3 for all slots is kinda mind boggling. So many readers have a USB 3 header cable for the USB ports, but then utilize only USB 2 for the card reader part causing bottlenecks in transfer speed. Not to mention some of those other card readers cost basically just as much as this one!If you need a memory card reader, don't bother with the cheap crap out there unless you know you don't need the quality or speed. This one will provide top-notch transfer rates, great compatibility, and solid construction that I trust will last for years to come.

This is for the CF to IDE 3.5" bay adapter 35BAYCF2IDE.I have two of these in a pair of retro PCs functioning as hard disks; a mid/late 90s Pentium 233MMX and an early 2000s Pentium III.For DOS and Windows 9x, they're ideal, although CF cards are still more costly than SD cards (and becoming harder to find in reputable brands). However, the convenience still outweighs the cost in my opinion. As CF and IDE operate the same, there's no need for an intermediary chip to translate, as is necessary in an IDE to SD adapter.I do think it is a little overpriced compared to a bare model - an extra $10-15 just for a mounting bracket with a push button eject is a bit much. That said, both units function perfectly, and barring BIOS and operating system limitations on the size of disks, I've had no trouble auto identifying three models of CF cards I've tried (a Bodawei 8GB, and both a Transcend and SanDisk 32GB). On the latter two, the cards had to be initialized first (done under Windows 10), as the BIOS would halt at the autodetection stage of the boot process. I suspect this is because the cards don't come with a valid MBR out of the box.Installation is easy enough if you don't mind the hassle of dealing with old PATA IDE cables, a frustration I'm glad we left behind nearly two decades ago. Also included is an adapter bracket to instead mount the reader at the rear of the PC in an expansion slot. Note that this bracket will not accomodate the bare Startech IDE2CF adapter, as the PCB is a different size from this model.

Suchte einen der als interner fungiert und gleichzeitig auch schnell lesen/schreiben kann. Viele sind bei den SD Karten langsam und haben nur einen schnellen USB Port.

Es muy práctico para la retroinformática. Permite ser instalado en una bahía de 3.5" o bien en un slot trasero ya que viene con su bracket correspondiente.Compatible con todas las tarjetas CF que he probado.
