Ideal for the job
Having just purchased a new Garmin SatNav I was finding the wider 5” version a bit awkward when fitted to the front screen of my Xsara Picasso and the trailing power cable was not helping things. I looked at quite a few before deciding upon this one and despite a few grumbles from some reviewers I decided to chance it. Well I am really glad that I did as it fits my car really well and has made things a lot more pleasing with no dangling cable or obscuring of the screen. Some people have complained of it getting jammed when they have fitted it, but to be fair it is easy enough to check it out before your get into that situation. Basically it is a thin flat metal bar with a hook over section on the end, you need to push the flat section into a suitable air vent, but far enough in that it can hook over the back of one of the horizontal fins. You also need to check that it is not too wide to fit in between the vertical fins that are often a part of the air flow deflectors on most cars that push air sideways as you rotate the control dial as these can be norrowly spaced apart. You can easily try this out by pulling back the spring loaded clamping section that slides along this flat bar and holding it there until you have tried the flat bar into the space between the horizontal and vertical fins. If you can do this and then feel the end part hook over the back of the fin, then it will easily remove again in the same way. What you should not do is to just push the assembly in between the fins until it hooks over the back edge without first holding the spring clamp back as a trial fit and hooking it on and then removing it again, if you do so there may not be sufficient forward movement left to release it again and that is how it can become jammed. You should be able to slide the flat bar between the horizontal and vertical fins and hook it over the back of the fin and remove it again before finally releasing the clamp part. Once released it is almost impossible for it to fall off again, but remember that the horizontal fins will want to turn downwards with the weight of the holder and SatNav until it reaches its natural position on your grill. You will also lose the ability to redirect the air flow on this particular vent although with a bit of experimentation a decent compromise for where they are directed can be achieved. There is also a small foot section that can be rotated to position it against the vent to support the device, so basically it pulls against the vent fin and pushes against the support foot when the SatNav is fitted. Some people complained of vibration when driving, but I detected very little provided it has been fitted in such a way that the vents are tilted downwards and the support foot located firmly. The support foot has small rubber pads fitted to avoid vibration, but I would suggest that a very small ball of ‘blue Tack’ or similar if pressed under each foot will keep it very stable and is easily removed if needed. The supplied 13mm ball fitted my Garmin perfectly replacing my original window suction cup bracket, so overall very pleased and at a good price.

Sorry for forgetting to write this review.
The windscreen on my Honda Civic is half a mile away. Not quite, but I have to use a cloth on a stick to clean it every now and then. It would have been absolutely useless to have mounted my satnav actually on the screen. I wouldn't have been able to reach it. I spotted this little gadget while I was browsing for some other things. It is brilliant. I have had it for nearly 4 years and it is still doing the job I bought it for. I can't recommend it strongly enough. It is like all things that do the job you want them to do. You forget about them. Had this gadget not done its job, I would have written this review years ago.

Much better than the Garmin air vent mount!
Having bought the Garmin air vent mount, which is a load of rubbish as it just grips a vent fin and keeps falling off, I was refreshed to find this product. It has a very clever spring-loaded mechanism which hooks on to a vent fin with a rubberised lower foot to prevent it wobbling. The bracket holds the GPS firmly in place and does not rattle. I would highly recommend it.

Reviewed after extended use.
Have used this on my old Mercedes A class for about two years. As other reviewers have said it should fit most cars. On my car the base could bounce a bit (short wheelbase/harder ride?). The problem was completely resolved by putting a small pellet of Blutack on each of the two supporting pads. Rock steady and out of the straight forward line of site - secure and safe. Would I buy again? Probably not because I am confident that it will fit my next car.Much later.....I am glad that I kept it! This mount fits my Yaris Hybrid perfectly thus letting me use my Garmin satnav in preference to the Toyota dash mounted unit.

Brilliant
I paid over £20 for a Air-Vent Sat-Nav holder from Halford which kept falling off the air vent due to poorly design features. At last, someone has thought how to make a proper holder that actually WON'T fall off the air-vent. Ingenious simple design that works. Absolutely simply to install 5 stars for everything, although I can't rate durability as I've only just fitted the device. Potential Durability???? 5 stars. What all the negative fuss is about...don't know.
