An Excellent Book for Beginners and Not Only
An excellent book, especially for beginners. There are a couple of extra points which may benefit even the most seasoned practitioners (eg. the MingGong Branch details). Shortly, it teaches perfectly what it promises: calculating the BaZi. And one cannot miss the wonderful contribution of Master Zhongxian Wu. Highly recommended!

Great book!
I only started reading this book, but so far I'm very happy with it. Some real valuable information in here. I've been looking for a long time for a book that explains the BaZi... Finally! The only reason I'm giving it a 4 is because I wish I ordered the paperback edition. There are quite a number of tables and charts that you need to flip between to do the calculations, so it feels a little slow and frustrating on the Kindle. I have bookmarked the tables and charts as I go, but a printed version of this book would work easier, because you will be able to flag the pages and get to them quicker.I may still buy the paperback as well. Thanks Karin! Good job!

Wow! A clear and practical guide, with never before published information, on the use of the BaZi in Chinese astrology
I really love this book!In many ways, it is the sequel to the book, Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, by the author and her husband, Master Zhongxian Wu. With that text, the reader has the opportunity to get a firm grasp on one of the most esoteric and confusing aspects of Chinese astrology (TianGan DiZhi). In this work, Dr. Taylor Wu leads the reader into the practical applications of the GanZhi BaZi in a clear, step-by-step manner. There is simply no other book like this available! Until now, the traditional calculation method presented in Calculating the BaZi has passed down orally, from teacher to student. What a treasure!I am a little embarrassed to admit that I found some of the calculations to be a bit of a slog at first. With daily practice, however, it really does get easier and easier. I definitely agree with the previous comment that it is preferable to go through the workbook in paperback format.I recently came across the book's website (calculatingthebazi.com), which has a very helpful Q&A section in which people can write in with any specific calculation questions as they go through the exercises (or check to see if anyone else has had the same question).I found the case studies at the end truly fascinating and am inspired to learn how to use Chinese astrology to help others.I am so excited about this book!

Unnecessarily confusing
Mostly I'm writing this review to get some clarity.I just received this book in paper back format and I've started on the exercises. Calculating the yearly pillars is simple and straight forward division. So, why is it so confusing to decide on whether we're using the remainder or the quotient to subtract the number 3 from?In the instructions it states that when the remainder equals 0, the yearly pillar = (birth year / 60) -3 And on the next page, "simply subtract 3 from the quotient (birth year divided by 60)" ... But in sample exercise 2 the author goes with the formula YP = R -3 and uses the remainder of 0 instead of using the quotient, which was 33. To make matters worse, she converts the remainder of 0 to 60 without explaining the necessity of this. Neither in this exercise nor in one of the previous practice exercises.I really hope this kind of confusion doesn't persist in the rest of the book. There just aren't that many resources to turn to for the subject.oh, by the way. When was this book first published? 2018? It's a miracle! ;-)
