The wood feels pretty solid, however for some reason the pics shown in the description looked like there was engraving on it. I guess it's just the grain of the different woods, because as you can see in the ones that I received the wood grain looks completely different. They packaged the mallets good, maybe a Lil too good lol. They had the black part of the mallets wrapped in saran wrap and boy were they stuck on there. It took about 15 min to remove the wrapping from each mallet. The shape of the handle made it easier to use and to obtain the sound a nice sound.

No problem using this with my bowls for singing. They make a nice, clear sound. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that both sides are supposed to work and only the wood one works on these.
