Soul music legend Candi Staton s third foray into Triple A and Americana music, finds her reuniting with legendary producer Rick Hall who produced her Grammy Award nominated early `70s hits such as Stand By Your Man and 'In The Ghetto.' The 14-track set paints the arc of a romance from its beautiful beginning to its bitter end. The hard-hitting songs range from country rock and southern soul to low down blues.

A Nice mix of good songs
I'm an old fan from the '70s and have always enjoyed Ms. Staton's style of singing. Of course I have hit's collections, but while I was browsing I saw this new recording. I liked the samples I heard so I bought the CD. I'm pleased with the whole album. There is a nice mix of songs and styles, and it's great to add something new to my collection. If you're a fan, I think you'll enjoy this album.

Excellent musicians backing this lady up!
Good to great engineering. Mostly great. Stellar musicianship and approach to the music. Great groove. "Where I'm At" is what I first heard, bought the CD right away. You Treat Me Like A Secret will have you wanting to kick it! Really great.

Not as good as previous outings on Honest Jon's
Excellent to have the tracks that Rick Hall was laying down with Candi Staton on the movie "Muscle Shoals" - probably the highlight of the movie. While the sound and ambiance on this CD are excellent, the material is on the weak side.Did anyone note the nearly 50 second break (utter silence) at the end of track 5?Is my CD defective?

Candi is such an emotional and soulful singer. The lyrics always seem close to her heart. Candi has an iconic voice. immediately recognizeable. Candi is full of surprises on this new disc.

A great CD. Her best secular to date
A great CD. Her best secular to date. From the romantic "Eternity", to the bluesy "Have you seen the children", to the uptempo pop "Commitment", TO the down home soul bluesy "Where were you. A all around great CD. A lesson on life and a must have

Nothing new for me here
I heard the lead song from this album on a radio station, and on impulse bought the CD. Candi Staton has a warm voice that can slide along the notes and create a sexy, lush sound. On the other hand, the lyrics and instrumentation sounded straight from the 70s; I just didn't hear anything new or particularly creative on the CD.

Classic soul from a great singer
The third superb cd in a row from Candi, mostly self written don't expect anything like Young hearts etc this is very much a return to her earlier fame material, Rick Hall even produces a couple of tracks at the fame studios, with a new Millie Jackson due on a compilation of her country tracks suddenly some of the "old ladies" of soul are back and they can still kick ass

Candi Staton with Rick Hall producing, it's just got to be good......
I'm biased - Candi Staton for me, is one of the great female soul singers around. Her Fame catalogue under Rick Hall is just tremendous and this album harks back to those times. CS can get a little too religious at times - just take a look at her website etc, but it's this link with religion that has given us so many great soul singers over the decades. All the greats came from Gospel choirs so I can forgive CS for the occasional ode to the person up there and besides, His Hands was an incredible album. If you're looking for an intro into Candi this may not be the album for you but a lot of the 'best of' albums skip past her best work. Get hold of Honest Jon's remasters of her first two Fame albums, all done down in Muscle Shoals with Rick Hall and the MS house band. There's also a truely excellent documentary on the studio, recently aired on BBC4 but available on DVD now. For this album, there's country, blues, funk and soul all covered, it tells the story of romance from beginning to end and it's Candi at her very best.
