sibilance rules
I like Rebecca Pidgeon and have had good recordings from chesky records in the past but this one misses the mark due to excessive sibilance, particularly on the stand out track Spanish Harlem. This is a 2016 vinyl repressing, so I do not know if the original was better, but the voice miking is either all wrong or the remastering on this version is poor.There are good songs and the instrumental sections have depth and realism, and it is wonderfully sung in her easy breathy and very 'correct' english style, but Spanish Harlem is a tough listen. Just to be sure I tried it on a different turntable with a brand new stylus, but the same deal. This type of sibilance is not present on some of my other tough female vocal recordings, so unfortunately my conclusion it is this pressing / version. 3 stars because some of the other tracks are listenable, but do not buy this version for Spanish Harlem alone. The digital versions are easier on the ear, which is not something you usually say !
