Hama Slide Viewer DB 54, Battery powered

I have had boxes of slides in the cupboard for years and never thought I would get to see them again. I looked on Amazon and was really surprised to find so many slide viewers on offer. I ordered this one and it arrived within days. I have had so much fun looking at the slides and seeing holiday and family slides again. It is a really good viewer for the money, so clear it makes everything come to life! I didn't think they still made viewers so would recommend this to anyone with slides. For very little outlay you can start reliving your memories again within a few days of ordering. Excellent quality and value for money.

The product did the job I expected it to do for the cheap price I paid for it. However the quality control is poor as it failed to function on delivery. This required some dismantling by me to check the lamp and the switch contacts. Basically the switch arrangement is achieved by pressing the slide into the viewer which pushes the top spring steel contact into the lower contact. This was the problem and after some minor bending of the upper contact the problem was resolved. You only get what you pay for but it did the job I wanted it to do as I had only around 100 slides which I needed to view to see what was worthwhile to keep / convert to jpg.

If you order this item, you can be forgiven for thinking that the Amazon box in which it arrives is empty - the viewer is that light and small. It is little more than hand-sized and yet does a really good job.The best way to describe it is 'basic':- A small box with a removable front in case you need to get inside to change the bulb + a traditional battery compartment underneath which takes two standard AA batteries + a slot into which you drop your slides so that they can be gently pressed down to activate the ultra-simple metal contacts inside.The magnification factor is x3 and the viewer is best held a few feet away (about half arm's length) so that the lens doesn't cause unwanted distortion. The image is very bright and clear.Like a previous reviewer, I only bought this little unit so as to be able to quickly go through well over a thousand slides taken back in the 1960's and 70's, with a view to deciding which ones I wanted to digitise. For this purpose, the Hama viewer is perfect. It's small size also means that it can easily be stored with the slides without needing much extra space.As long as you don't want a high-end viewer, I heartily recommend this tiny little product. Good things DO come in small packages!

The Hama Slide Viewer DB 54 , battery powered, was purchased to review some holiday transparencies of a holiday in Italy taken back in 1977, thirty-nine years ago, following a recent holiday to Italy taken by my niece. The Hama viewer is excellent in demonstrating that my almost forty-year-old slides were intact and perfectly viewable with the sights clearly and easily identifiable. I would strongly recommend the Hama DB-54 slide viewer as an essential purchase for anyone who needs a slide viewer to view slides amongst a small group of friends or family members. This is (just about) OK for checking what's on a slide (which is why I bought it - I have several thousand slides which I am going to sort, prior to digitising some of them). However it's really very poorly made. The image is very small (as is the whole viewer!) and the picture has a lot of distortion and some dust / marks between the layers of the lens. The back light also flickers from dim to bright. I wouldn't recommend this product - there are much better quality ones available.

Total waste of money, It arrived in super fast time (Next day excellent shipping time) i unpacked it from its box and inserted the battery's to find it did not workd Had to bend slightly the cheap flimsy tin to make the battiers connect to get a very dim bulb struggling to glow.When i did get it work i got a better result buy holding it up to the window, Please do not buy as i garrentree you will be disappointed with this viewer, Spend a few more pounds and go bigger and better. Sorry for such a bad rating and i would have posted a positive review if it was at all possible but it is not. 0 OUT 10.

Small and compact but worked perfectly well to view some old slides we had inherited from a relative. It was just what I was looking for really. Probably not ideal if you have hundreds of slides to view but if you only have a few this works well and I would recommend it.

I purchased this as a replacement for one my wife had as a child which sadly broke, she was very pleased with ease of use and picture quality. Total success.

Cheap nothing fancy but it serves it’s purpose without a doubt
